Rest in peace Tiki.

I am very sorry for your loss.

Taryn0405 12-29-2011 09:00 AM

Cindy, if I may call you Cindy, please understand that the only reason there are those who seem skeptical or questioning your story is that we have alot of well sick people that come on this website that post things bascially to tug at all of our heart strings and to just get us to argue and get upset with one another.
I'm not saying this is the case with you at all, however please know that due to the nature of your story as well as you location and how it was told seems very different, we were first to jump on the accusation band wagon, and forgive us for not accepting something that is different.

Also know, that we only do what we do to protect our furbabies. Like you love your little one, we love ours as well and will stop at nothing to make sure every furbaby is taken care of and that every furbaby owner is educated and knowledgeable. So therefore, I do not apologize for us YT'ers erring on the side of caution, because let's face it...These furbabies don't have any other voices besides ours.

I pray that you stay here, it's a wonderful and supportive community. And I pray that you find some comfort in the loss of your little one.

Taryn0405 12-29-2011 09:01 AM

On that note as well, congratulations on the weight loss. I lost 55 lbs at one time and know how much of a roller coaster it can be.

sashajade 12-29-2011 09:08 AM

So sorry for your loss:(
I have had yorkies for over 25 years so have had some experience with a few illnesses, i have had a yorkie (tye) die from kidney failure and i have a yorkie (zac) at the moment in the first stages of kidney failure, tye had heart failure so it was impossible to see the first stages of kidney failure with him because of the water pills he was on so the first signs we saw was that he did not want to eat and would be sick, he went from weeing a lot to not much at all, he also had no energy and his back legs started to give away as they lose strength in them, if your dog had last stage kidney failure he would not of been able to walk around like yours was, tye had a blood test which showed he was at the end stage of kidney failure and we had to have him pts.....dogs in the last stage act and look like they are drugged because of the toxins building up in there body.....
Zac is in the first stage of kidney failure, his signs are weeing and drinking a lot but apart from that he is fine in every other way...he is now on a new diet so he is no longer drinking as much....
Over the years mine have all had things they are not meant to have (the joys of having dogs that can get in to things) zac eat a plastic dog toy when he was younger which was toxic, his signs were he drank loads, was sick and then started having fits, the toxin did not affect his kidneys it damaged his liver but with a bland diet his liver recovered back to normal...
Mine have also had raisins and all of them apart from my shih tzu have been fine, 10 mins after she had it she was sick but fine after.....
All of mine have had onions and all been fine apart from zac who had little eye flickers (small fits)....
All of mine have had chocolate and been fine too...every dog is different some will be fine with something and others wont...as you had given your dog one or two raisins before i would of thought that if he was so sensitive to them he would of had a small reaction to them then like been sick or acted ill.....
Also you said that the raisins where in his sick so his body had not absorbed them yet......
When tye and zac eat things they shouldnt my vet told me the good thing with little dogs is that they cant swallow anything big enough to cause a blockage so i cant see a raisin causing one....
Also is rare for small dogs to get bloat...its large dogs that it affects and you would of seen his tummy bloated....
To be honest a yorkie at 11 could of had cancer which you would not of even known about, i have had dog with cancer and they are perfectly normal until one day they might start being sick...having an upset tummy...panting and then pass away...... there are so many things that could of caused his death...even a nasty bug...one thing to remember is that you loved him and he loved you, you did what you thought was best and thats all that matters:aimeeyork

normarae63 12-29-2011 09:17 AM

My sincere condolences on losing Tiki. Rest in peace little one.

There are so many other things I'd say right now but this is the most important.

sashajade 12-29-2011 09:23 AM

ASPCA | Toxic and Non-Toxic Plants you can look up plants that are poisonous to dogs on here

ASPCA | People Foods this answers some questions about foods

http://www.entirelypets.com/toxicfoods.html on here it talks about raisins and says only 10 reported cases and they had eaten a lot....

I can't afford to take anyone's comments personally. What I mean by that is that I have asked for honest, open, kind responses, and I need to trust that is what I will be given. I 'need' to know what people think. I don't want this to ever ever happen again.

I am sorry for the loss of your sweet pet, and although I am so happy we had almost 11 amazing years with Tiki, I thought he would live to at least 15 years or maybe I would get lucky and get 18 out of him...

I am sure Tiki is pissed off at me for this. He was such a spunky guy, he never would have chosen to die, when he still had so much love and fun left in him. He was extra-ordinary and loved me as much as I loved him.

He never ever would have blamed me for this. He would want me to continue on and be happy and remember the good times. But if he could talk he would be as pissed off at I am. I am sure we both feel cheated by this...

Sadi, my sweet Sadi. Sadi is gorgeous, tiny, shy, a Mama's girl, cuddly, needy, and not too bright. I don't think she fully understands what has happened. I love her to bits and I am sooooooo thankful I still have my sweet baby girl...

Just so you know, Tiki was brilliant, larger, confident, independent, loyal to a fault, did not like to cuddle, but would hug or kiss on request. He did not like to be held, he loved to PLAY!! and eat!! (he was not fat at all). But was my alarm clock for everything. Meals, snacks, going outside, getting up, going to bed, you name it. He kept all of us on a schedule.

He was VERY interactive, and he had a BIG presence in the room. He insisted on being noticed. He is greatly missed. Everything is so quiet and calm... and sad...

Thanks for listening... hugs

My condolences on the sudden loss of Tiki; he sounds like a wonderful boy.

I won't pretend to know the how or why - sounds like you have been given some good ideas by others.

Your little girl sounds just adorable as well. At 3.5 lbs, a night of vomiting could be devastating to her; which I know you will be watchful for.

Whatever happened, Tiki understands and knows that you did your best. You are a human; with human imperfections like all of us.

Peace be with you during this difficult time.

This post is to the above posters only. A small part of me can understand why you may have thought I was a troll.

However:
- there are ways you could have asked me questions to verify my story before accusing me and hurting me to this degree.
- what you have done is heartless and cruel
- I have posted a pic of the day we got Tiki and the day he died. In the picture on the towels, he is dead. That was December 26/11 at just after 1:00 am.
- the pic with the sand, sunrise and beach, is where we buried Tiki right outside our cabana on the beach.

I have laid my heart and life bare to you and the others. I trusted you with my feelings and you stomped all over them.

I will be removing the personal information and links from my one post above. I just felt a huge need to ensure the kind people of the forum knew I was sincere and legit.

I request you do not respond to my post and any of my posts in the future.

Cindy

YorkieMan10 12-29-2011 09:47 AM

TikiDog, I never thought for one minute that what you said was not true. My posts were only to show that it was very unlikely that you were posting a false story.

Taryn0405 12-29-2011 09:48 AM

Offer an olive branch and I get slapped in the face with it...

I have not called you a troll once, or have accused you of anything. I was trying to explain to you as to why people are cautious.

But, once again, that came back to slap me in the face.

shodanusmc 12-29-2011 09:52 AM

I will stand by what I said. You can fool some of the people some of the time, but npot all of the people all of the time.

Now I need to pause, I am too emotional to type. Even if you have ever lost a pet, get a clue.

You are right, lot of pretend Marines out there.

Bobbiowens 12-29-2011 09:55 AM

I honestly think that a Mod needs to lock this thread.

courtney1121 12-29-2011 10:05 AM

Wow. I dunno. I still feel for this woman losing her dog. Story or not, it's still sad, and I don't mind helping her. She just wants answers. The trollers I have seen here usually post behavior they deem to be appropriate like oh the dog went to the bathroom on the floor so I smacked it with a newspaper...like really...you smacked a 4lb dog with a newspaper...are you dumb...!?

This woman here though sounds caring and loving to me and I don't think anyone has the right to judge her for wanting some answers.

TikiDog 12-29-2011 10:10 AM

Yorkieman my sincere apologies... I was so hurt and shocked I lashed out... I will see if I can edit my post... sorry...

Bobbiowens 12-29-2011 10:11 AM

I think the language "barrier" between what she meant, how she put it, and how she percieved our replies and how we percieved her replies, did everyone in.

A Mod should lock this thread or delete it entirely. It doesnt show YT in a positive light that I know it is.

Bobbi

TikiDog 12-29-2011 10:13 AM

Taryan, well I did appreciate your explanation, it helped me understand, it is how people did not even give me the chance to prove or explain before the lashed out...

I am sorry if adding you to the list was unfair. However, I did not feel a lot of compassion in your explanation... my bad. Sorry...

YorkieMan10 12-29-2011 10:21 AM

Bobbiowens, not everything in life is positive. Not even this forum. I see no need to lock a thread that just needs to get back on topic. TikiDog made this thread for a reason, and she would like to discuss the matter at hand.

TikiDog, no problem. I know how you feel. I just lost one of my Yorkies a few weeks ago -- just as suddenly as you lost Tiki.

TikiDog 12-29-2011 10:27 AM

Sashajade,

Thank you for your input, wow you read my posts very carefully and gleaned a lot of information from them.

I am pleased with your response. I hope my sweet Tiki did not die because of something I did or did not do...

I have learned so much from this whole thread, it has been invaluable to me.

You folks are amazing and in spite of what has happened, I am going to devour this site and I may post on occasion when things are back to normal...

Thank you sooooooo much... Hugs...

Brewfilek 12-29-2011 10:29 AM

just reading through this thread in it's entirety.

shocked at how it's all of a sudden turned so terrible.

i didn't even get one glimmer of a moment when i thought the story wasn't true...And yes, i've seem some "false threads" on here as well. but thats very unfair to come out and speculate the story isn't true. Just move on. don't take a poor woman down in her hardest days on a hunch. :thumbdown and then to poke fun at her pain. Shameful.

I'm sorry that you had to go through this Tikismom.

very unfair that they tried to enter your private life like that and take you down further.

i hope you can still feel the love coming from most of the posts on here.

*hugs*

Ummmm...i get that about life...but when a thread goes to hell in a hand basket, its time to shut it down...after what has been posted, i think the original poster got the jist...she'll never really know and she got a few educated "guesses" as to what could have been the COD. No need to beat a dead horse....please pardon the pun.

TikiDog 12-29-2011 10:32 AM

Hi Ringo,

Yes I will be watching my sweet Sadi like a hawk. I have always been protective of them. And I have done tons of research before and during their lives. Now I have learned so much from this site and the links provided, I feel what I knew before was only the tip of the iceberg.

I will be even more equipped to take care of my babies in the future...

Thank you again...

TikiDog 12-29-2011 10:35 AM

Thank you Cache I have since apologized to them... I appreciate your feedback... man this hurts, I can't take much more of this...

However, it means a lot to me to ensure the ones that care know their efforts to assist me were not in vain and are so appreciated...

Thanks again...

I'm sorry some people think your story is fake, they accused me of being a troll when I first got here just because I tried to break up a fight.

To my friends at Yorkietalk, I really think this needs to stop, and if you don't think a story is true why must you post on the thread? Why is it necessary to call someone out? I just don't get it. My goodness, especially when they are in extreme grief, what if YOU'RE wrong???? I've got to say, I'm really disappointed. I love you Steve, but I think your wrong about this. I can see you calling someone out if they are trying to cause fights, but that wasn't happening here, I think the OP, just wanted to have a clearer understanding of what may have caused the death so suddenly.

And I have owned Yorkies for 35 years, and have worked as a Vet Tech for 15, 5 of which were on nights to handle emergencies.

I have seen and worked on countless large dogs that came in at night with bloat, so I am very aware of the symptoms. Granted, it is rare in small dogs, but odd that my Biewer bloated on me just a few weeks ago. So it can happen in small dogs.
Bloat in Dogs: Symptoms, Causes, and Treatment on MedicineNet

Small dogs can swallow bits of rawhide, and when the rawhide comes into contact with the gastric juices they will swell up and cause a blockage. Or they will try to swallow larger pieces or things which get caught in their throats. There are quite a few threads concerning choking and blockages in Yorkies right here on YT. In the Vet ER, rawhide was the #1 cause of blockages/choking seen in small dogs, at least of the ones that made it in for treatment.

Rawhide, Nylabone,Cow hooves, Pig ears-The hidden dangers

And blockages are not always caused by one single large object. A number of small objects can glom together and cause a blockage too. It happened in my dog after feeding her coconut chips. I fed them to her one by one as a tick training reward, they did finally come out looking like a stack of Pringles Potato chips. Carrots have become wedged in teeth and soft tissue in the mouth causing abcesses, small toy parts, craft room supplies like beads and such can become lodged in the alimentary tract and cause problems, even death.

intestinal blockage - Google Search

choking - Google Search

I want to emphasize these points, because this lady does not have direct access to a vet, and she needs to know what can cause a potential problem in dogs. I explained that I was speculating (guessing) as to the cause Tiki's death and that the only way to know for sure was through a necropsy.

I would appreciate in the future that you do some research before you post and try to disprove my posts. I have done the reseach and can disprove yours.

Hopefully, we will all learn from Tiki.

I completely agree, Nancy. And I remember when you were called a troll :(.

Cindy, on behalf of YT, I want to apologize for some of the things that were said here - we\'ve deleted some of the comments.

I\'m very sorry for your loss; I can\'t imagine all that you\'re going through. I\'m sending good, healing thoughts.

TikiDog 12-29-2011 12:15 PM

Hi Wylie\'s Mom,

Thank you so much. Please, please remove my post #92, I listed links to my entire life there, just to prove I was real. There is one lower where someone responds to it, so it is there at least twice...

Short of posting a pic of myself today, with his Username, and today\'s date I don\'t think he will believe me no matter what I say or do... and I have a feeling even that would not convince him. However, I tried, and I don\'t care what he thinks. I care what the others think and I have proved who I am.

I apologize to everyone for posting the pics of my sweet baby, I regret doing that, and did it in anger and pain, not thinking how it might affect all of you... my sincere apologies.

Thanks everyone,

Cindy

TikiDog 12-29-2011 12:24 PM

kjc,

Both my hubby and I have read everyone of your posts and links and cannot even begin to thank you for all of the info you have provided.

I will do things so differently next time. Thanks for the details on what to do with the food and water after they are sick... that is invaluable also.

Big hugs of gratitude.

Cindy

TikiDog 12-29-2011 12:32 PM

Nancy... thank you so very much for your support and info. I can\'t thank you enough.

Thanks everyone for the PM\'s they mean so much to me. I have tried to respond to each of them.

I have found the YT forum and it is of extreme interest to me, and about one of my favourite topics YORKIE\'S, I am not going anywhere. I may go quiet for a bit and just read and heal... but I will be back.

Thanks everyone. It is 2:30 in the afternoon and I have not even showered or changed yet. This has been all consuming...

Gotta go get my life in order.

As painful as this thread was, I would go through the whole thing again in order to get the invaluable support and information from you guys...

You are a very special bunch, I am so glad I found you, and I look forward to getting to know each of you better over time.

For anyone I offended with my posts of pics I apologize, that was not my intent.

Big hugs,

Cindy :animal36

TikiDog 12-29-2011 01:19 PM

Hi Wylie\'s Mom,

Please remove post #88 as well... another link to my private life.

Thank you,

Cindy
