YorkieTalk Newbie! | New yorkie I picked Bella up yesterday morning . She seems to be getting familiar with her new home. However, it's difficult to get her to eat because she watches my every move. If I walk over to sink, she will stop eatting and run to me, and sit between my feet. Last night was difficult for us both. Bella did not want to stay in her area to sleep. She whined and barked until I put her bed in my room next to my bed. Well, that wasn't good enough either. She still whined because she wanted to get in the bed with me . I don't want her to sleep in my bed, I want her to sleep in her own bed. Well, I did not put her in the bed with me, and finally she gave up and went to sleep. Overall, I'm happy she's home. I know we have a long way to go. It's just so hard to say no to her when she's so cute. I need advice on the sleeping arrangements.

| It's so difficult at first isn't it, trying to get everything right - and I think people do forget (eventually!!) the sometimes strange/difficult beginnings Bella doesn't know what's happened to her - but you do! She's obviously desperately clinging to the one new constant in her life - you! I remember for the first week or so with Harry, he would only eat if I was next to him - but that for me was fine - at least he was eating! And as she grows more confident that you're not going to 'abandon' her, her confidence will grow and grow. As for your sleeping arrangement - well, I personally totally agree with you that you should stick to your guns about where she sleeps etc., and I admire you for seeing it through. Difficult when your new little baby is crying longingly I know - but I promise you that won't last long. This is what we did sleep-wise (sorry for the ramble!!). We'd decided that Harry could be up on our bed with us 'til bed-time each night, but then into his crate (it's a large crate - labrador size). Harry's crate is in our bedroom - we're all in sight of one another! He has a big, mad game for half an hour or so late evening, downstairs for a drink and a pee - then he now knows that he gets into his bed in his crate, and that is basically it until the morning (when we have to wake him up - woo hoo!!!). This routine took about a week to establish and achieve - well worth every moment!! I wish you the very best of luck, and wish you both a very happy, peaceful (!!) Christmas. Sally + Harry x |

| Also try putting a tshirt or something that smells like you in her bed. Congratulations and be consistent

| I had to hand-feed Gracie for the first few days, but after that she was fine. Once Bella gets more comfortable in her new home, she'll be fine. We also used a crate for nighttime - we used a little one and put in on a chair next to the bed so she could see me. After about a week or so, we moved her across the room then later into a bigger crate so she had more moving-around room, and she was fine. When would I get up myself to go to the bathroom in the early morning, she just poked here nose up to the edge of the crate and waited quietly until I got her out to go potty. Didn't take very long for her to get used to the routine. Good luck |
