| New Puppy Hey everybody! I just got my yorkie puppy 3 weeks ago. Her name is Gypsy and she is 14 weeks old. The first few days I had her were rough! I am a college student, so I was having to make a huge transition and so was my puppy. Now we are home for the holidays and things are much better. I have had lots of time to bond and play with her and my family loves her, too. Since this is my first yorkie and the first puppy that I have owned in a couple of years, I hope some of ya'll maybe able to answer a few simple questions. House Training: While I first had Gypsy at my apartment she would use her puppy pads more than she would potty outside. This was fine with me just as long as it wasnt on my carpet. Now that Im at home and we have a large yard its easier for me to take her outside more regurarly. However, because my family has larger outside dogs, Gypsy thinks going outside is just playtime. (the dogs never get rough with her and she enjoys playing with them). Sometimes she will evetually potty (after being outside for 20 minutes), but other times she will use the bathroom within 3 minutes of being back inside the house? How can this be stopped??? Now at 14 weeks she maybe weights 4 pounds. Her mother and father are both around 7-ish pounds. One of her full sisters is about 6 pounds. The breeder said that my puppy looked alot like her sister did at that age. About how big should I expect her to be? Yesterday at the vet's office, one of the tech's asked me if she was half schnauzer. I was quite alarmed by this, but I could understand how she could just glance at her and think that. Gypsy has some shorter hairs around her muzzle and her body hair is courser. The breeder seemed like a very reputable person, and I would hate to know that I got fooled. Although, I am so attatched to Gypsy and can't imagine not having her now! Any answers to these few questions would be greatly appreciated! |

| Gypsy is adorable! I think as long as she's using the potty pad or going outside, I wouldn't be too concerned. It's nice to have them both pad and outside trained in case you are gone too long and she needs to go. As for her adult weight, it's hard to tell... All dogs are different and you won't really know until she's older. I would guess that she will weigh less than 10 pounds

| Your baby is adorable. Yorkies come in all flavors. lol. I've seen so many with different looks. My Hot Rod is black and gold while Maggie is bright silver and tan. Never can tell. As for potty training, we have ours on pads and outdoors. This way if we are running late or if it's pouring down rain, they can still do their business. We have a pad in the expen as well as hubby's garage for them to "go out". Maggie used to wait until she came be in from outdoors to poop. She eventually started pooping outdoors. My 2 are 3 1/2 and 4 and now prefer to do their business outdoors. Maggie will use the pad if she absolutely has to for poop but you can tell she wants to either go in the garage or outdoors. Hot Rod, given access to the front of the house will poop on the front carpet. He totally prefers to go either in the garage or outdoors. t's really weird, he (they) have absolutely no problem peeing on the pads one bit. I've just gone back to using gates within the past couple of months (closing off the front part of the house) to sort of go back to "crate training 101". It's worked but it's been a pain having the gates up again after 2 1/2 years. But it's definitely doing what it's supposed to. good luck and you just need to be patient.
