I agree with the majority. If you really love your dog you would never go into something as serious as breeding without researching. Reading into what the OP stated it appears she doesnt even know the basics of breeding. Sorry but that is just ignorance. You cant just wake up one day and decide "oh I'm gonna breed today" :thumbdown

Yes all breeders were beginners at one point, but my motto is, If you're going to do it, do it right.

One very important thing people need to know, is that Yorkshire Terriers & English Bull Dogs would not be here if it wasn't for human beings. These particular breeds DO NOT have 'natural' births, they NEED human assistance. If a Yorkie does have a natural birth, there are chances of many complications that can occur w/the puppy & mom. The 'breeder' needs to educate herself & prepare for the what if's, emergency c-sections, tube feeding, etc, etc, the list goes on.
I too get a heavy heart when newbies come on here asking for advice, but will it ever end? Yorkies are such a popular breed & so many inexperienced people want to breed them...it's very unfortunate. If they didn't do their homework & comes on here asking for advice, I would think they should be prepared to take the lashings...hopefully swallow their pride & learn so their bitch & pups can survive.

I hope the OP will stick around to learn as much as you can, have a safe whelp & get your girl spayed....that is unless you want to be a breeder. Then I hope you'll learn as much as you can to be a respected one, all the best of luck to you.

If I was going to breed yorkies - I F - I would beg one of these great breeders here to let me be an apprentice. Then and ONLY then would I even attempt it and then only under their guidance. There are just too many things to consider and no one should do it without all the facts and information they need. Oh, and a big wad of cash.

I would love to have another little yorkie like Adie and maybe breeding her would have produced a little duplicate but instead I got her brother. Same mother totally different dogs. LOL.

Another point I want to make is that the size of the litter doesn't always meet the economical demands. Shots vet bills etc. The there are the emergencies. What happens if the bitch only has one or two puppies? My Gracie was used as a breeder and never successfully raised an entire litter. Only one puppy would survive out of two being born. (Adie and then Skeeter) The breeder didn't want her any more because she wasn't making any money on her. Cold huh? Well now I have her little stud and she is out of business! Yeah.

I know I am rambling and I apologize to the group. I just get riled up and talkative I guess.

I felt kinda bad after I responded. I really don't want it to come across like we are all ganging up on someone. I really don't think anyone is trying to be a bully, but we just take breeding very serious because of the possible consequences.

This "breeder" has not been back to this post. You guys are preaching to the wrong choir. Unless you scared the sh!t out of her and she ran away and probably doesn't know what to do now bc you crazy people scared her away. We all hope she does the right thing, but many "non-breeders" can't help throwing their cutie dogs together to give free pups to their family bc their baby will make such a good mama! (rolling my eyes).

Never mind the fact that the OP was asking for information about breeding. She did it, for what ever reason, it was her choice to make and thats on her. The deed had already been done.

I dont know about you, but I just can't ignore the fact that somewhere out there is a Yorkie who may or may not be in her 6th week of pregnancy and due to whelp in less than 3 weeks.

There is only so much we can do to offer our suggestions, opinions and thoughts to an OP. But to do so with respect will surly get our point across and will be better received by the OP. And then maybe, just Maybe the OP will stick around a little longer than just ONe day!

The door should never be opened IMHO for online breeding whelping full support-hands on experienced persons should be physically there.:mad:

I agree with this statement. When Sadie got pregnant I also came here and at times I felt as if I was being attacked. Since Sadie's pups, all of my fur babies are neutered and spayed and I continue to educate myself about my fur babies.
I did take a lot of negative responses and at one point I was going to leave YT because I was hurt at the way I TOOK those responses. Now that I have been on YT for awhile, I have seen the same post over and over again. Help I bred my dog, what should I do next?, well I did not breed Sadie, it was not planned and I was ignorant to having an intact male with a female in heat. I was not home when this tie took place but I handled it with the help of a few very special people here. I got a mentor, a good vet and lots of supplies, things I would not have known to do if I had not stuck around here and listened. I am sorry if the op feels anyone was attacking her because I too have felt that way but, I know now why some people come off so harsh. Pet overpopulation is just one reason, being involved with rescue I see so many animals that are homeless or put to sleep because there just isnt any room.
I hope the op does come back and takes advice form the great breeders here.

There truly are members of YT who are willing to help and have helped OPs in many different situations. Myself including I've been helped by members of YT. I'd like to think that I too have been helpful to other members here and will continue to do so. It's just a shame that she hasn't returned to give us an update on the situation.

Yes, I'm dead serious. This has been going on (as I've seen it) for six years on YT. People jump all over the OP who is seeking advice. Yes, I am seething inside too by some of the things I read, but they didn't come here for a sermon. They came here for help. We are so quick to scold the OP that they don't return and we never know what happen to these poor babies. Yes, she should know everything about breeding, get testing done, have champion lines, yada yada. But let's face it, probably 75%+ of the people don't. They breed their little Fido (one breed) to their little Spot (another breed) because they are just so darn cute and they want free puppies. They are not going to listen to someone over the computer yelling at them.

For example: In another post a woman came on about buying her pup in a pet store and now she (the woman) was going into anaphylactic shock. Well some were so preachy about "OMG you got your dog at a pet store!?" That she never came back to tell us if she were alive! It's THAT stuff that p:thumbdownsses me off.

This original poster asked a question, which should have been answered FIRST. Then when she came back and trusted us, it is then that we could explain the "other" stuff.

I was "one of those" who first thought I wanted to breed my ever so cute Yorkie. If I would have come here first post with that question and heard those answers I would have told you all to go to h:thumbdownll. But I built a rapport with YT and read ONE post that made me change my mind. A girl bred her tiny 3 or 4lber and she wound up dying. THAT is what made my decision. I was not about to have my Baby die. It's not all the preaching that changes someone's mind, most of the time it's the kindness, or sometimes it's something tragic.

A lot of people though come on here post once and no matter what the response is the new person never comes back. Most of the people I believe including me answered with help and then said something about the puppy mills. A lot of people also said well with pet stores/ puppy mills you never know what they put on them that's true. I think its ridiculous what some people post here sometimes instead of going to the vet or doctor.
