| Donating YT 10K Club Member | Unspayed females run a serious risk of developing pyrometra. Often times this is fatal as the condition is detected too late. The older the female...the more often she's come into heat and the risk is increased. ACVS - Pyometra in Dogs & Cats There is a much higher risk of mammary cancer as well. Most vets wouldn't spay a bitch in heat so you could arrange it way after the holidays.

| It is VERY important to spay your dogs!! If you cant afford to pay for them to be spayed, how will you pay for pyometra treatment when that happens? or any other emergency? |

| I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Okay, I just realized you’re from St. Johns Canada, here’s one place Capital Area Humane Society Dogs 5 months and over = $150 Dogs 7 years and over = $100 This price is even better. Low Cost Spay/Neuter The last one on the page, the others are FL. St. Johns Animal Emergency Hospital Low Cost Spay / Neuter Clinic – Animal Emergency Hospital offers low cost spay neuter clinics as a community service for St. Johns County and surrounding areas. This service is designed for young, healthy pets. Older pets or those with medical issues, please speak with your regular veterinarian before scheduling elective surgery. Costs: Cat spay $55.00, neuter $35.00. Dog spay $65.00, neuter $55.00. Call (904) 794-5071 after 5 p.m. to schedule spay / neuter for your pet. I think as long as your vet says your dogs are healthy, you'll have no problem. Most breeders spay their breeding dogs at 5 or 6 for females and even older for males.

| They may be healthy now but things could quickly change I would suggest going to a low cost spay clinic.

| My cats were all spayed at a low cost clinic for $35 each. You are putting them and yourself through alot of grief by not just getting them spayed. It didnt even cost as much as you have stated for me to get my yorkies done at the vets. But with Christmas I know money is tight so look into the low cost clinic Nancy gave you

![]() I love my pets and would not want them to go thru something that could be avoided. insurance or not. Maybe consider doing 1 at a time.

Preventive is best. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if anything happened to Ahi that I could have help prevent. Ahi will be getting "genetically altered" soon too.

| They need to be spayed, but until then you can buy fancy pants or whatever they are called to avoid a mess. Don't you still have to come up with the money up-front with insurance? Like all they do is reimburse you after? All insurances are different but I mean if your dog gets a pyometra and you catch it early enough to treat (because a lot of the time it's too late and infection sets in) it will be super expensive. Also, mastitis treatment is pretty expensive too. I would say the best solution is to eliminate the possibilities. Spay them. Im sure you can find a low cost spay/neuter clinic somewheres. You just gotta look. My dog is getting neutered for $45.00 including bloodwork.

Doesn't matter what you can afford or have insurance for...if the condition is fatal.

| Donating YT 10K Club Member | Let me try to explain pyrometra another way. A dog's heat is not like a human menstrual cycle where everything is expelled. In a dog that isn't being bred, it just stays there. Quite literally the dog goes from seemingly fine...to death. It is that quick.
