I have 2 purebred yorkies... One of whom is a "blue" (the love of my life). I also have a "mutt" (3/4 yorkie, 1/4 shi zoo( as I like to call it)) who is a sweet beautiful baby girl that I adore!!!! (shorkie)
And I am getting another "mutt" for my son.... A morkie( Maltese and yorkie)
Why?? Because they are still the same.... They have the same heart that a purebred would have. It still beats, still yearns for attention, still wants to be loved. I don't care that it's not a pure yorkie.... I dont care if he wasnt for the better meant of the breed.... He needs someone to
Love him, to call him their own. and that person is me!!! And when I introduce him, dont belittle me for adopting a "mutt".... Don't tell me he's an outsider... Because he will be our new baby.... No matter what. I will love him, and I hope that you all will accept him.....because it doesn't matter. He is our baby.
| I would never belittle someone for loving and caring for a dog. There's no difference between the fanciest show dog and a dog found at the local pound. They both have needs and both should have wonderful loving homes. In all my time here at Yorkietalk, I’ve never read of someone putting a dog down because they were a mutt or they didn't fit breed standard and your post seems to suggest that’s common. What you don't seem to understand, is that there is a difference between the breeders who breed the mutt and the purebred. One is doing it for the money and the other hopefully has studied the breed and is doing it because they want to improve the breed. Granted, you find lousy breeders breeding purebreds, but you won’t find any great breeders breeding crosses. You can't predict how a crossbreed will behave or look like as an adult, and so many, wind up at the pound. That is MY problem with people buying crosses from breeders. Morkies, may either look like a Yorkie or they can look like a Maltese, or anything in between, but because both breeds have many of the same illnesses, crossbreeding them doesn’t help you eliminate these diseases, in fact, because these breeders don’t check for problems, you may be increasing the chances. Many breeders breed crosses because they don’t have the breeding rights to their adult dogs, so they breed crosses, because they can’t be registered with the AKC anyway, and they just say, “parents were registered.” This is the same thing as buying stolen property, you are helping a thief. The very least you should do, is look at the breeders registration papers of the adults and see that it was on OPEN registration, not limited.
If you want a mixed breed, I suggest you look at breed rescues and even your local pound, many local pounds have websites and you can see what animals are available online. Of course, your free to do whatever you like, and reward a bad breeder with money, it's your choice, but I do have a problem with you seemingly encouraging others to do this as well, and your cavalier attitude about not caring about the breed in general, and where it's headed. If any of you have ever gone to the pound and seen the dogs that probably have less than a week to live, if someone doesn't adopt them, you'll know where I'm coming from. It's not a place of hate; it's a place of sadness for these dogs. I've adopted dogs all my life and Joey's the only dog I got as a puppy from a breeder, but I found a breeder who was really breeding for the right reasons, and not just to make a buck. |
