| ![]() I am familiar with this breeder in 2008 we were looking for a Maltese. I came across their ads and started emailing with Heather. She sent me some pics of some puppies she had. I sent them to another breeder who did not have any but she said they looked good from the pics. Anyway I was still wondering and so I asked her for references and she gave me some and I remember calling one of the ladies who bought one or two yorkies from her and agreed with me she was scared it was a puppy mill but that the dogs were great and went on to make me feel comfortable. Well, we met with their family member in Breezy something PA at a rest stop, there were numerous other families buying too and she had so many puppies with her. Well there was a woman buying a Yorkie and I had a Yorkie in the past but when I saw the size of this puppy, I could not believe it. It was tinier than my chihuahuas when they were puppies, I just remember never seeing a pup that small able to go home, I mean it was so tiny, I really could not believe it. A very well dressed young woman was buying the puppy and I remember her putting the pup under her coat as it was a cold, windy March day. She brought a lot of Maltese puppies with her she brought 2 small females for me to choose from and for another woman she brought two more. One was born in November and was a sweet female, and the woman wanted her because she wanted to breed and she could see the size, at the last minute she reluctantly changed her mind and took the other pup because they told her it had a champion on the papers and if she wanted to breed she could charge more. We ended up not going with the two little females brought for us but for the female the breeder lady ended up not taking. Muffy was great, I felt better that she was older because seeing that Yorkie I realized how easy it would be for a pup that small to just die. Anyway, no problems with Muffy but I wanted to know more about where she was bred since the papers had her out in Ohio. I emailed Heather and asked to find out where she came from and she told me from friends of theirs because that woman was looking for a female that was older that she knew would be big enough to breed. Well I asked her for the number of the breeder and she finally gave it to me. The many was very rude and he wanted to know what was wrong with the puppy. When I told him nothing he said then I should be happy and got off the phone. It was weird and I knew seeing that carload of pups that this was not one breeder. She always mentions that she can find whatever pup you want and that is because they have so many family and friends that breed. Well, really sad story is Muffy died in a freak accident a few years later and I was heartbroken. We started looking for a breeder and we could not fine any femaile pups available. So I kept running into their ads, I was not even sure at first it was the same but then I recognized the email. Anyway, my daughter and I drove all the way out there this time. Jason was there with his two daughters and had the puppies in the pen. He had a huge Maltese and a tiny westie and I asked him where the other 2 maltese pups were and he had to go out to get them. He brought them in and I ended up with the little Westie female and the little maltese female. After being there, Heather never came out of the house but he had to keep going inside to conduct the negotiations with her. They have this big huge type barn that the puppies are in. we did not go inside, I don't think we would have been allowed. I know it was my grief wanting a puppy that made me overlook a lot. I normally demand to see both parents, etc. We were lucky both pups checked out well and they are both great in temperment and health. I could not get it out of my mind though that it was a puppy mill and I contacted Madonna of the Mills to see if she thought it was and they told me that they did not think so. I am a photographer and I had some gorgeous pics of my pups that I emailed to Heather who said she was going to put them up and she never did update the site. I searched online for anything about them and I found this forum post and some complaints but very few considering the volume of puppies they sell. I don't know, I hope the dogs are treated well but I don't know what to think and I still say it is more puppy mill than breeder. I love my pups and would not trade them for the world so I am torn. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | ![]() This is very common, that why you should really do your homework when finding a breeder and look for someone who is breeding for the right reasons, never buy from a broker or pet store.
