| ![]() Brit, LOL, love my 13 pound Cody. But this summer when we were walking and Cody got too hot and tired, I carried him part of the way home----- what a load. Still love every ounce of that boy. In Sept, we brought home a new, tiny little girl. IT IS a big difference. Cailee's now 4 pounds and she's like a feather compared to my sweet boy.

| ![]() Someone mentioned this before (they said 10 # here but actual breeder talks decided on 9#)& apparently it is being discussed in Europe due to the "epidemic" of tiny's (teacups, micro minis whatever you call Yorkies under 3#) what if the standard was raised to 9#-? I don't know that this would ever happen or if the lower and of the standard would be raised up I just overheard the ideal.

I understood it to be something breeders there were talking about-mulling over to say-not an actual proposal (as of yet). I'm unsure if it was any more than a group of breeders talking about the idea or the context of their conversation, because the topic came up in a debate about pup mills & their marketing online etc then it shifted to being about micro Yorkies& then onto talking about how "teacups" are epidemic in the US...

| ![]() While show dogs are supposed to be judged according to the breed standard it is still true that trends are very common in the show ring. Those who want to win find themselves having to breed their dogs according to the latest trend the breed is going toward. I agree that for the most part it has not had and adverse effect on Yorkie breed health wise. I think the thing that has hurt the Yorkie as well as other small breeds is the fact that certain Hollywood types have caused a fad for putting dogs into a bag and toting them about like some sort of fashion statement. The popularity of these little ones has more to do with the size bag it will fit into than the type of companion it will be. Look on petfinder and see the poor babies that grew too big to fit in the bag and became a disposable commodity. When people with shallow reasons for purchasing a dog become the ones that money minded breeders market towards it can only mean harm to all the breeds involved. We already had too many large homeless dogs and now there are almost as many small cast away dogs. |
