While show dogs are supposed to be judged according to the breed standard it is still true that trends are very common in the show ring. Those who want to win find themselves having to breed their dogs according to the latest trend the breed is going toward. I agree that for the most part it has not had and adverse effect on Yorkie breed health wise. I think the thing that has hurt the Yorkie as well as other small breeds is the fact that certain Hollywood types have caused a fad for putting dogs into a bag and toting them about like some sort of fashion statement. The popularity of these little ones has more to do with the size bag it will fit into than the type of companion it will be. Look on petfinder and see the poor babies that grew too big to fit in the bag and became a disposable commodity. When people with shallow reasons for purchasing a dog become the ones that money minded breeders market towards it can only mean harm to all the breeds involved. We already had too many large homeless dogs and now there are almost as many small cast away dogs.
