| Diddy needs new food Good morning everyone!! So I think Diddy is totally over his food. Hes been eating Nuturo natural choice dog food) for a while now. He turned one in October and ever since that hes been not excited about it. I have to bribe him pretty much to make him eat it. My cousin feeds his dog Billy-Jac and told me to switch to that. Im not sure how I feel about that. I hear its fattening. Anybody have any ideas on what food to switch to? I appreciate your input so much. xoxo

| I wouldn't touch Nutro with a ten-foot pole. Google "Nutro Consumer Affairs". They'd had horrible quality control issues in the past, and I just don't trust the company at all. I'm no professional, but I would also NEVER touch Bil-Jac. If you are looking at purchasing at Petsmart, I would choose from Wellness, By Nature, Royal Canin (not my #1, but it's a decent choice, IMO), Simply Nourish, or Innova. Petco tends to offer a bit more, such as Solid Gold, Halo, Holistic Select, Nature's Variety, etc. Available at specialty stores, I like Fromm a lot, Acana, and Go! and Now! foods (made by Petcurean).

| oh wow. I had no idea about nutro. Im so clueless sometimes Ill go wherever to find the best food. Do you think I should just be feeding him dry food...or keep with wet and dry. I usually leave his dry food down all day. Is that wrong?

| I'd discontinue the Nutro also. You can feed kibble or canned. Most vets will tell you that canned cakes on the teeth and causes more plaque build-up. Then some will say that's totally untrue. Your choice. Either way, your pup's teeth should be brushed daily. I'd put the kibble out twice a day, pick it up after 20 minutes. If there is any pickiness going on, then no treats or edible chews or your pup will just hold out for that "good stuff". Pick a food based on the company's quality control dept, their standards, their qualifications, your feeding philosophy, and what your dog does well on. My food of choice is Science Diet.

| Bil Jac uses the preservatives BHA or BHT, the last time I looked. Both are considered carcinogens. It's also annoying that their website only lists the main ingredients, not a complete ingredient listing. Also, there is no nutritional analysis listed. It also contains ingredients I am not big on -- animal by-products, corn meal, etc. Apparently, this year, they were hit with multiple FDA violations (something about having rodent and insects infestation) but I don't know how true that is as I never found official reports of this. I still just don't trust the food.

| I was feeding RC until Molly decided she didn't like it anymore. I came across the Honest Kitchen one day liked what I read about it, ordered a sample and she loves it.

| Yoshi eats Blue Buffalo Dry without chicken,,,Prissy was on Purina Puppy CHow when I got her but I am mixing Nutro Ultra Dry with it and then just the Nutro Ultra. I noticed on the dogfood advisor that Blue and Nutro Ultra dry were 4 star foods...Both of them are Holistic. It took a long time to find one for Yoshi since he is allergic to chicken...Who is grading these foods? I get so confused, I think though when Prissy finishes the Ultra. I will get her the Blue Buffalo... |

| We used to feed Nature's Variety and liked it a lot. We are trying Taste of the Wild and Before Grain now. The dogs seem to really like it but it's too early to tell how they will do on it long term. Taste of the Wild is a very popular choice. If you email Diamond they will send you generous samples of TOTW. The dogs also like the Before Grain (feeding the Buffalo formula now). I found that petfood.com has pretty good prices if ordering online. Oh, and I'm another one that wouldn't touch Nutro with a 10' pole!

ZoE has been on Royal Canin from the get go. According to Dog Food Advisor it's only a 3 star food. Yet, ZoE is a very healthy pup & has done excellent on it and has none of the health/gastrointestinal issues that seem to be so prevalent with other people's pups according to threads on this site. So I'm sticking with the RC.
