| We had a long talk with the vet tonight. We have been advised to consider doing the "noble thing" for the little man. He has a brain tumour which can not be removed and this is making him extremely frightened. This is why he defends himself by biting and growling if you go near him. The vet advised that his "quality of life" is rock bottom and keeping him is doing him no favour at all. Right now I am unable to make a decision. I look at him with love in my heart and tears in my eyes my head is bursting. I just do not have the guts to take him for that final injection and allow him to go like that. He has had all the tests and each test says the same thing, nothing can be done. I need opinions I just do not know what to do for the best. Am I being cruel keeping him ?? For Gods sake somebody help me PLEASE

| I know it is the hardest thing in the world to lose one of your babies, but i would honestly have to agree with the vet and say do the noble thing especially if all the tests say there is nothing that can be done and his quality of life is rock bottom. I will keep praying for you and little Robby. Miracle do happen and maybe one will come your way and things will turn around for the best. Big hugs!

| I know that you have said but I need to confirm. You went to a Neurologist & not just a vet ? They did an MRI & Spinal Tapp ? & your dog is really only a youngster ? It is possible but not likely that your dog has a brain tumor. It is most likely a subarachnoid cyst caused by build up of spinal fluid, caused by a Chiari malformation at the base of the skull. The other possibility would be Cushings which causes a tumor either on the adrenals OR the Pituitary & most often the Pituitary which is in the brain. Cushings can be treated but needs to be tested for by Blood. Did they give a name to the tumor & if so what is it ? If you don't know then def call & ask them.If this is a subarachnoid cyst then there is Treatment of very little expense. Last edited by lillymae; 02-23-2012 at 04:23 PM. |

Brian, I'm so sorry If you feel that you have had all of the testing done possible and trust the opinions, you have to look out for Joan and yourself and the other 3 members of the pack. I just don't know how you go about wrapping your head around it.......I'm very very sorry....

| I first read about little Robbie today, and I am so saddened to hear about his diagnosis. You and Joan are such loving people, and I can feel how much you love your little boy by reading your words. I wish I could do more than offer you my support. Sometimes all we can do for our babies is to care for them, give them the medical care and nurturing that they need, and to shower them with love. You and Joan have given Robbie so much of your hearts and your devotion. I'm so sorry. |

| It is the most difficult decision to make. It's hard enough to know when to have an older dog put down but to have to make that decision for a youngster must be the worst. I assume they must have seen the tumor on the MRI. Quality of life is what it comes down to. If he is afraid and not enjoying his life then there is not much question about what must be done. It does not of course make it any less difficult. You are the one that is actually seeing him and what he is going though. You and your wife have been dealing with this for a while. You must love and pity the little guy so much. It is difficult to gauge pain in an animal. A young animal that has had a condition for a while may be compensating and dealing with the pain. It is possible that pain is effecting his personality and actions. I pray you and your wife will come to a decision and be at peace about doing the right thing. |
