Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | How Do You Get Your Yorkie To Accept The Topknot? Hey guys! How did you get your Yorkie to accept the topknot? Katie Scarlett will sit still long enough for me to put a clip in, but I could never see her sitting still long enough for a band. How do I show her that the topknot is a good thing? LOL. She doesn't like treats, or any that we have tried so far. As soon as she gets the topknot in, she is rubbing up against stuff to get it out. I try to keep her busy so she doesn't have time to get it out, but eventually, she keeps on trying to get it out. She's managed to get it out twice and I always go over and pick up the clip before she has time to put it in her mouth. Her hair on the top of her head is getting really long. Should I just get the hair up there cut of when her grooming comes up or what should I do? Should I just keep trying or wait and try when she is older? I make sure the knot is not too tight or pulling on her. I think she just wants to protest. LOL. I really want her to wear a topknot, but I am worried I'll never get her to. Any help???? Thanks so much!

| You keep trying. There is no big secret to it! Start with clips, move on to those soft scrunchies for little girls (when she has enough hair) then to big girl bands. I got Kaji to leave his bands alone by distracting him with something else. As long as the pony tail isn't too tight or painful, he'd quickly start playing. When he would try to get it out, I'd say no, and distract him with a new game.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I just never gave in. Taycie pulled it out and I put it right back in.. some days I felt like I did her hair 20 times but, eventually, she gave up.. She knew I would just do it all over again. I am stubborn.. And a hair stylist, I had my mind made up she was going to wear ponytails and bows!!!

| I'm so glad you posted this thread.....I have been wondering the same thing myself....Trixie is growing out her topknot and the bands are just so darn hard to get in. I will try the nice soft baby hair thingies! Thanks...and good luck.

| Perservere. I started out when Lollie was a tiny wee pup with barely enough hair for a band - she looked like Pebbles. I would put it up and before I turned around it was out, so I'd put it back up. I called it the survival of the fittest - eventually she grew tired of the game and left it alone. I won we both survived . |

| You need to continue to put it in even if she rubs it out so in time she will be used to it

| Keep that Hair Bow In. Everyone I think is saying the same thing. Be stubborn. I just kept putting it back in. I used the band from the first, they are much harder for them to rub out. I have found my girls are more compliant if they are on my lap facing out, not facing me. I shake the bow box too and say Pretty, Pretty, I treat after they get the bow in, lucky for me my girls are highly food motivated. It is the only time they get liver snaps (I can't stand their breath for about an hour ucky peehew).

| My puppy does the same thing with her bows, but funny thing is she does not do it with every one. I guess that is her way of telling me that she does not like that bow and wants a different one. I started bows with her from day one and had trouble too. She would fuss the whole time so I just gave up. My groomer told me she was just being a drama queen and threw a band in it so quick I was amazed! We got home and I said, ok lil miss, no more drama queen for you! Every day like clockwork at the same time I now get her bow box, brush, comb and all that jazz and she sits very still and lets me do her hair. I use the soft baby bands on days we will be home loafing around the house or even the snap like barrettes to keep her hair back but on days we go out she gets a band and a bow and she never touches it. (Unless its one that she thinks is ugly) then we just pick a different one and we are on our way. It took about 2 weeks but she finally just gave up and let me have my way, she gets her way on everything else.....least she can do it let me do her hair. also, when she is sleeping is a great time to do it because when she is asleep she is ASLEEP!! |

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | Thanks y'all! I was very persistant today. I had to put her bow in about 4 times but I think she finally just gave in. We will keep up at it. I am going to get some bands and try that asap!

| I agree with everyone. Just be persistent and your baby will eventually get used to it. That's what worked for me. I just want to add that you should by the bands or scrunchies from the "Ouchless" brand. Just go to the little girl's hair accessories section and you can find them. They work much better because they don't hurt your baby when you pull them out. |

| My hair gets fixed and then Mina's hair gets fixed. She sits facing away from me,usually on the bathroom counter. She doent mind me putting a band or bow in,but try to comb or heaven forbid brush the rest of her out and its like trying to handle the tazmanian devil or a greased pig. I dont give up,I just keep grooming while she complains. She isnt treat motivated but she really likes hugs. |

| I just wanted to add be really careful of what you are using they will rip and break hairs removing it themselves. Don't use the top knot glue stuff at all until you've won the battle. Here: Year one down Elvis is still winning. Seriously he will let me think I've won even for a couple hours then I turn away or he dispersal and it's out. To be fair he was almost 3 years when I got him and apparently never wore one.

| Kiko is usually pretty good about leaving her bows alone. I started by just using a plain band, then a small bow. As she grew bigger and her hair grew longer, I used bigger bows. If a bow wobbles when it is on her head, she will mess with it until she gets it out of her hair, so you might want to make sure the bow doesn't shift much. |
