Muffins weight? Had a Vet appt. yesterday. He was 3 months yesterday, anyways the Vet said he was 3 pounds. Is this normal weight? The breeder said he should stay 4 pounds and under full grown. Isnt he full grown at 6 months? So he has 3 months to go? Is he overweight maybe? Did breeder lie to me? By this info, what weight do you ladies think he will be full grown? I dont mind too much, but wanted him to stay under 4 pounds, because thats what I paid for. Is it what I am feeding him? Is there a weight control food for them? He doesnt look big but he still has a ways to go and already 3 pounds lol. Any input? Thanks! MuffinsMom

| Normally you take their weight at 12 weeks and double it - to get their full grown weight. It was very close for both of our girls.

Well, at 4 months, Chloe weighed 3lbs. Chloe will be 7 months old very soon and she weighs 4 lbs. She may get a little over 4 lbs, but I doubt it. Every baby is do different when it comes to their weight but I believe your baby will weigh around 6 lbs. Thats a great size!!!!!! Joy

My baby was just 1.5 lbs when she was 3 months, now she weighs a little more that 4 lbs at 8 months. I'm not so sure but i think your's will be bigger than what your vet says as full grown

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali was 1 lb at 9 weeks and at 22 weeks is 3 lbs. I think she will go between 4-5 lbs which is fine, but like Muffins mom said the breeder said she was charging more for Cali then her sisters because she was the smallest (runt?). But I didn't care I fell in love with her at first sight and the sisters already had deposits on them. After joining YT i have learned so much about these small ones that it is fine by me what ever weight she gets to as long as she is healthy!

I don't believe that any of the formulas or any way of guessing their full grown weight is accurate because I had Max weighing 1.4lbs at 4 months & now he weighs 7.4lbs at 1 year & 4months! Tia was also 1.2lbs at 3months and is now 5.4lbs at 7months. Lexi was 1.4lbs at 3 months and weighs 4lbs at 1 year & 9 months. Even the parents weight doesn't help. They are just like people from the same family who are all different sizes and hair color etc!

I don't think people really know what the weight will be full grown but some puppies put it on early and other don't. You can get an idea from the parents but even then, like with my Chloe, you can't tell. I think you should be able to feel the ribs and then after that there should be an indented area. If you can't feel the ribs, there could be a little weight problem. Try giving small pieces of Cheerios and sliced apple for treats instead of a treat with higher fat content.

I think I raise the fattest yorkies, I go out of my way to overfeed them. I never withhold food. I have had yorkies babies leave here and never gain but a bit of weight in several months. One had 40 plus blood test, then liver bile tests, then cardiologist test for hundreds of dollars, vets said they had enlarged heart & abnormal weight gain............ but when tested they tested fine. If your Baby is sick test them by all means, but if they base it all on weight only.........thats %*$#()%&%..............bloodlines have so much to do with it.

I am really hoping that my Yorkie stays small too. But, up to 10 pounds is fine with me. I just don't want a 25-pound Yorkie. Wow! I wouldn't dream of trying to control my Yorkie's size by regulating his food. I think (with the exception of becoming fat and overweight), a healthy dog should be allowed to reach the weight it was meant to be. Yorkies! - I've never seen such a wide weight range in any other breed. The last time I looked at the post regarding Yorkie's weights - people had come on and posted from 2 1/4 pounds to 18 pounds. I should look at it again and see what else has been posted. Carol Jean

HI This is my first posting here. I have been reading the board for awhile and I appreciate all of the good advice and love of Yorkies I find here. I have two 'boys' and they are so adorable - Ruggles and Smarty. The reason I was looking here on this board is because my vet says that Ruggles is overweight, he was 8.4 lbs, but is not just under 8. That is my problem, he is too hungry. My vet had me feeding him 1/3 cup per day, but I do not think that is enough. Now, he inhales his food like a pig and he used to be a rather dainty eater. But, he is not losing much weight. After almost 2 months of dieting he has lost about 1/2 lb. I have been reading here a lot about diet, as well as looking at various holistic dog care books. I think Ruggles should be getting about 1/2 per day of dry and 1 oz of canned per day. I have severly limited any treats. I don't want him to be hungry all the time, but I want him to lose more weight. He is 14 monthis old. Smarty is just the opposite and will walk away from food, but he only weighs 4 lbs.
