| Anyone else feed "lite" food? I've been feeding Chicken Soup Lite to my babies for about a year now. Anyone else feed lite? Lately I've been wondering.....they say too much "diet" food (soda, etc) is not really good for us. Should I switch back to the real stuff??

| I don't think "diet" in the canine food world necessarily means the same "diet" as in the human food world. Typically, a diet dog food or "light" dog food is simply less calories, less fat, and less protein, etc. But the ingredients still meet AAFCO and all that, it's still a balanced diet. Sometimes I do agree that the marketing on dog food can be ridiculous. I truly don't believe each breed needs something different, or heck... even seniors/puppy formulas, etc. A lot of it is marketing. Some of it may not be. Most of it is. But as far as weight loss... I think what is most important is feeding less, exercising more, and scheduled feeding.

I agree with Brit. Gizmo is on a "lite" food simply because it has a lower fat content because he seems to be prone to pancreatitis. I honestly think it's whatever your baby does best on. Alot of people can make suggestions about what to feed, but if your baby likes, and is doing well on lite, then there's no reason to switch. With regards to comparing it to human food. Human diet foods sometimes contain artificial sugars in them which some studies show may have higher risks for health problems down the road. Like Brit said, with lite dog food, the "lite" is simply based on protein, fat, salt, etc.

| The Kibble I have is the Natural Balance Reduced Calorie and I add about two teaspoons of canned food to it. I use it because it is lower in fat.
