I don't think "diet" in the canine food world necessarily means the same "diet" as in the human food world. Typically, a diet dog food or "light" dog food is simply less calories, less fat, and less protein, etc. But the ingredients still meet AAFCO and all that, it's still a balanced diet.

Sometimes I do agree that the marketing on dog food can be ridiculous. I truly don't believe each breed needs something different, or heck... even seniors/puppy formulas, etc. A lot of it is marketing. Some of it may not be. Most of it is.

But as far as weight loss... I think what is most important is feeding less, exercising more, and scheduled feeding.
