| Paisley and myself went and visited groomers today I took Paisley to Mount Vernon and we went and visited 3 grooming shops. There are 6 in town all together. One was in a bad part of town so I decided against it. Another was closed i think.. I couldn't ever get an answer on their phone and I drove out and tried finding it but couldn't find it. I wasn't looking to get Paisley groomed today, just wanted to find a groomer to make an appointment with. Another I visited was owned and ran by a lady who was originally from Conneticut and used to show Goldens. She would not allow me to stay with Paisley for her grooming. She also said that Paisley would have to be left off there at 8 am or so and not picked up til the end of the day. Which i did not like. I told her I wasn't comfortable doing that and her reply was how good it was for the dogs to sit in the crate and "hang out' at the groom shop all day... it was good for them. I asked her ,How paisley would go potty if she was in a crate all day. She replied "oh you'd be surprised at how many dogs are in the crate all day and don't go" I said , but she's a 15 week old puppy, she can't hold it and I sure don't want her potty training messed up and her start going in the crate. So needless to say, that's not the groomer I'm going to use. Then I went to another one... the place was basically a dump. Which I wasn't looking for a "pretty building" but a GOOD groomer.. so I went in and the cigarette smoke about knocked the breathe out of me when I opened the door Nothing personal against cigarette smokers... but geez.. go to a back room, or open a window or something! So it was a definite NO on that place.. besides it looked dirty inside too and the lady said Paisley would have to be there 4 or 5 hours probably. Then We (Paisley and me) went to TSC and got our dog food and walked around a bit.. everyone loved Paisley and had to come see her Then we went to Lowes to get a couple new blinds and everyone in Lowes loved her too Then as we were leaving Lowes a lady started talking to me. She has a Maltese and i told her I had drove to Mt Vernon to visit groomers. She told me about the one she takes her Maltese to. She said she had tried every groomer in town and her maltese always came out of there, scared and shaking but she said she loved this lady! So I drove out there and went in.. the lady was grooming a bichon and her grooming room is right there beside the waiting room and it's wide open where you can sit and watch. I was talking to her and she said she was pretty busy with clients and didn't know about taking any new ones at this time but she had hired a girl to help about 2 months ago. This girl moved down here from Bloomington , IL. She has groomed for 11 years while living in Bloomington. She said she worked in a privately owned groom shop.. (she was not the owner, just worked as a groomer there) I met her and her grooming room is just around the corner from the waiting room and you can sit in there with her if you want. I mean you can stand at one end of the waiting room and her groom room is wide open. There's no doors on the groom rooms. It's actually a small house that's been converted to a grooming shop. She was doing a cocker spaniel /springer spaniel while I was there... which she was debating on calling someone about.. the guy had brought him in and he was grown out, matted , stinky and covered in fleas. She said when she bathed him, the water was bloody and she showed me his gums were pale, so probably enemic. She said it was the worst flea infestation she'd ever seen I felt so sorry for him, he was such a pretty boy, and so well behaved too. She said she was at least going to have a talk with the owner of the dog and try and educate him on how important flea control is for the health of his dog and that he needed to take the dog to the vet ASAP!!! Anyway, I made an appointment with her for next Tuesday... She makes actual appointments.. she said it usually takes an hour to 2 hours. I can stay and watch or leave her, whichever I want. I like the fact that she never does more than 4 dogs per day. neither does the owner of the shop. Four dogs each, per day at most. They don't use cage dryers either. They dry with hand- dryer. So... I hope this works out and we have a groomer!

| I didn't mind at all reading your long post. I think you may have found the right groomer. I hope you like the way your little one looks when she gets done. I have never left any of mine at a grooming shop. If they can't do it by appt, then I don't go. Good luck and let us know how it works out.

| Sounds like a good place - hope it works out and you like the groomer! I don't leave Levi either, but he behaves better when I'm not watching. I watched the first few times, but I like our groomer and now I just sit out in the waiting room and read.

| It sounds like you might have found a great groomer! How fortunate that you ran into someone who has a wonderful groomer I hope all goes well with her first appointment! I used to bring my shih tzu to be groomed and he really liked his groomer, they even would have him hang out in the main room after he was done. I was always pretty happy with the way he looked afterward. The groomer moved and I didn't want to search for a new one. So, now I groom him myself - I really enjoy it, and so does he. Belle (my yorkie) has never been to a groomer - she probably never will, either. I am lucky that she has a slow growing silk coat and I am letting it grow out. For now, I just tip her ears, and trim her feet.

| It is such an important thing that you did. Some people are under the impression that just because a business has to do with animals that it is going to be all right to leave their dog there. When I was a kid we took our poodle to a couple's home that showed poodles. When we picked him up he was shaking and nervous and when we took him back he acted terrified. We just assumed he did not want to be away from home because these people were always so nice. Later we found that these people were notorious for abusing their dogs as well as others. We all felt so bad for poor Brandy. But we were ignorant that other animal people could be abusers. The woman who wanted you to leave your dog in a crate all day sounded really questionable and any place that is dirty is certainly no place to leave your pet. It should not take more than an hour to do a small dog. It should only take 5 minutes to pay for the grooming so there is no reason to leave a dog there for hours at a time. Groomers who treat their clients like dogs are not the kind of business I want to leave my baby at. |

| Sounds good. I started to groom myself from the frustration of searching for a groomer. We first went to where I take him for doggy daycare. Because Troy squirmed so much they never did what I asked. Then we went to a mobile groomer and he told me he didn't like small dogs. I liked the groom but because of the expense and the groomers poor attitude I went ahead an bought my own clippers.

| You know, I thought about grooming Paisley myself. I actually have a a couple of really good clippers. One is the Groom Master. I just don't know how she would look if I did it I also think the experience of going to be groomed will be good for her... that is if the groomer is good to her. Yes, I agree the groomer who wanted her to sit in a crate all day is questionable.. very! I was not going to leave Paisley there all day to sit in a crate. No way! So I hope this girl works for us. We'll see how it goes next tuesday. I will stick around and wait on her. I probably won't stay in the same room because paisley may act like a real stinker if I do that. I will be in the waiting room.. one wall seperating us. There's no doors on the room either so I can hear.

| I have taken a tour of some of the grooming salons, petco & petsmart in FtW a couple of times over the past 10 yrs and STILL have not found someone that I like, pout. There is a pretty salon close by,but they also want the dog there at 8am (not happening, not a morning person),wont let you stay and you get your baby back at the end of the day. When I was talking with the girl up front,I felt like that attitude was they were doing me a favor. I know how to groom my own dogs, but would like to have the option of having someone else do it if I was in a crunch for time, the holiday season comes to mind. Glad that you were able to find someone and I truely hope that they workout for you. |

| Im glad you found a good groomer. Word of mouth is sometimes the best way to find one. The groom shop my groomer grooms from isnt fancy to look at but she pays alot of attention to detail and will groom exactly the way you want it done. That was really bad that one groomer that smokes around the dogs that is totally unprofessional and I dont understand why anyone would put up with that

I honestly think the woman was smoking and wasn't expecting anyone to stop in. Because she said " I thought who is this? Did I book a dog and forget? I wasn't expecting anyone else today" So I guess she was just doing her last dog ( Shih Tzu) while I was there. The others were sitting in pens waiting to be picked up at closing time. The place I'm taking paisley to, isn't fancy at all. It's clean but it's an older small home that's been turned into a groom shop. It's been kept up okay.. not falling down or dirty, but not new or fancy either.
