What are Yorkies fears, irrational or rational....

For the longest time Sakura was afraid of the sound of a lawnmower but has gotten of that and replaced it with thunder. But I think that has to do with one of the dogs at work is deathly afraid of rain and thunder and she picked it up from him.

She has also gotten over the sound of the bearded dragon moving around his tank at night. She used to shake and pant all night long if the dragon made one sound at night. It didn't matter if the light was on or off and it was only at night. She would be fine with the reptile during the day.

Last thing she is afraid of is belts has been since I got ther as a puppy. She has never been hit by one or had one fall on her. She only afraid of it when I take my belt off and put it away.

Taycie Hates my vacuum. She tries to kill it.

She hates or is rather scared to death of my windshield wipers. She starts panting and freaking out when I have to use them if she is in the car with me. So I have to bring some of her food along in the car to try and distract her on a rainy day

Brandi only has one fear and that's thunderstorms. In fact she get so scare that she will try and jump in the shower with me and she hates water. If we are in bed, she will get under the covers and start shaking. Poor baby I just hold her and cuddle her and that seems to calm her down.

Now this fear I understand a bit more: he's terrified of the oven. What happened was last year, my mom was cooking and the oven started smoking and so our smoke alarm went off.... now I am sure to a dog, it's WAY louder than it is for us so I can imagine how this would be scary. So he went a few months that every time we would turn the oven on to cook, he would run away and hide. Well, he had FINALLY gotten over this for the most part, he was able to sit in the kitchen and watch us bake and well just about a month ago, it happened AGAIN! Smoke alarm went off. So now the poor dog is terrified again... and he knows the difference too, like he does not care about toasters, toaster ovens, microwaves, the stove... it's ONLY the oven, and he's scared of it at other houses too now when someone is cooking!

These are his 2 main fears I can think about and we work on them all the time. What about your pups?

Gosh Brit I am so glad you started this thread. Jada is terrified of a fly swatter too. If we get a fly in the house and I even pick up a fly swatter she will go in another room and hide. I have been in tears before, thinking her previous owner had hit her with one. Now I think maybe it is just a quirk. At least I hope so She was a meek timid little girl the first few months here...and now she is a very vocal bossy little thing

Jersey is afraid of baths! When he sees me by the sink he thinks it's bath time. Poor baby he high tails out of the kitchen and looks for cover under a table or chair

Gidget does not like the flyswatter either. I have known her breeder for about 14 years. I know what kind of home she came from, so I don't understand what it is about the flyswatter. She also hates really bad storms. She tries to herd my husband and I into the same room during a bad storm.

He will go run and shake in the corner if a water bottle cracks by itself, but if you are drinking a water and he knows you are almost done with it he will stand there and bark at you so when you are done you can throw the bottle so he can chew on it

Rizzo is mad crazy fearful of any kind of plastic bottle. I have yet to figure out where this one came from. One day we were playing fetch in the house and I threw the ball behind my head and he chased after it. A few minutes later I heard him making his "frustrated" noises, and some sad whines so I went to investigate...He was trying to get to his ball that had rolled between the wall and a empty bottle of water. I watched him try to figure it out for 5 minutes before interfering, once I touched the bottle though he ran the opposite direction freaking out. I've never thrown a bottle at him, dropped one near him, or beat him with one. I haven't figured out how to get him out of this, any time I pull out a plastic bottle he won't come anywhere near me or it.

He is also freaked out by chickens, but so am I so we're working together on that one.

The smoke detector- we don't ever work on it because obviously we try NOT to set it off. Both dogs totally freak out- I think it is pretty rational because it is LOUD and piercing and I am sure it hurts their ears.

Andy does not like thunder storms me neither because if they are at night Andy is under the blanket then under the bed then back under the blanket sits on my head. This will go on until the thunder stops lol

My little rescue Gracie, came with a brain full of fearful phobias. Most we have worked out, but a few linger. The biggest one is thunder storms. Even before the thunder cracks and the clouds darken, Gracie knows it is coming. She starts to pace and whine, she follows me from room to room. I know what I should do; which is ignore or distract her. But, I can't. She is my bity girl and I am all Mama. I get her pink baby and little quilt, she gets in her crate and I cover her up. I let her hide until it is over. Another thing she is afraid of is a teddy bear that sits on a bed, in the guest room. If I leave the door open, she sneaks peeks at it and growls. Then she gets on the bed and and works herself into a frenzy. Backs up and barks, growls. If the teddy bear tips over, she rushes in and bites it.

Kiko, like Lola, is afraid of the baby gate. When not in use, it is just leaned against the wall. She won't walk near it. If one of her toys ends up next to it, she will lean and stretch to get it without walking up to it. If the toy goes between the wall and the gate, she will cry until someone gets it for her. Kiko is also afraid of other dogs, she had a couple of bad experiences (wasn't injured, thank goodness), so I know why, but she has become really rude towards other dogs. We are working on it and she is making progress.

My last Yorkie foster was tough and fearless, except when you pulled out the Cheez-it box. Just seeing it on the counter was enough to send him running and hiding with his tail between his legs. Oddly, no other boxes scared him. It was just the Cheez-it box. I wish Cheez-its scared me. Maybe then I'd stay away from them and not eat so many.

Eddie's afraid of fireworks and thunder. He was also afraid of sounds he doesn't understand. I tried to clicker-train him when he was younger, and he was terrified of all types of clickers I tried.

Jillie's only fear is being squished. She will heel uncomfortably close to me, but when I try to get her to weave between my legs she does so haltingly.

I have a friend with a Rottweiler that's terrified of blimps! Yes, the ones in the sky. He doesn't even bark at them, just cowers and wants to get away.
