YT 1000 Club Member | Petco Boycott Poll - have you voted ? It seems like Petco has a Dog Forum ! And, someone has started a Poll there, asking people if they have or will Boycott Petco for their Inhumane Actions. Seemed like the right thing to do You might like to give you opinion on that, at... http://community.petco.com/discussions/Dog_Discussion_Forum/fd03p00v01d1?CoreCat=MM_DogSupplies_Community&redi rCnt=1&nav=messages

| I know that I won't buy there anymore, I believe in voting with your $$$$$ and if enough people let corporate know why they are unhappy, MAYBE something will change. This was a great sadness. I just don't understand the thinking behind the choice.

| I never did go to pet stores that sell "pets." Johnson City is about 40 miles from me. Have never been to the store. I hope they shut it down and criminally charge the manager. |

| I have posted my objections to PetCo on the site you have mentioned as well as other sites that post reviews of PetCo. It is obvious that PetCo and it's management have an abject disregard for the life that they obtain from puppy mills as well as the other vendors that profit from the mass production of animal life. It sickens me to think of the suffering these animals endure even before they arrive at the store. To think of their being locked in cages to be drowned is more than I can endure to imagine. New York State needs to make laws to stop the sale of puppies and other animal life in pet stores. I ask all New York residents to contact their local legislators and ask them to stop these pet stores as well as any puppy mills that exist in the state. |

Petco doesn't sell puppies, they sell pocket pets, reptiles, birds and fish.... not that it's ok that any animals drowned, but just wanted to clarify that they do not have puppy mill dogs.

| Well, ours here in Dallas has cats too. I don't think they should just get a slap on the hand for this. I feel sorry for any animal that has to die like that, even birds, etc. They have feelings too. It just makes me furious. At least Petsmart did care. |

| They're opening a Petco in my town in early 2012. They just posted in the newspaper that whatever it was they had applied for was approved. They're going into what was previously an Old Navy. I kind of doubt it will do that well around here -- we're a fairly small town and all pet stores that have tried before, aside from our local pet boutique, have crashed and burned. They have a limit to their veterinary services and I think it was included that they cannot board pets so that it won't hurt the veterinarians in the area (I'm fairly sure at LEAST one of the vets opposed the idea of them coming in at the town meeting).

| As far as Petsmarts go, I think the closest one to us is ... Maybe a 45 minute drive, and they do have birds, fish, hamsters, gerbils, chinchillas, reptiles, but they do not have dogs unless it's a special planned out event. The only cats they have are cats from, for whatever reason, the humane society of our town. If they have dogs, it is the same case -- dogs from the humane society for adoption. I cannot say I disagree with that principle because if people are more likely to adopt them at a Petsmart than go to the pound and the animal will lose it's life, I say let them try to find them a home. Most of the cats seemed to be full grown with the exception of maybe 1-2 kittens last time I went, which was back when I first got Nilla. My mom likes to get Greenies, and I wanted one of those Martha Stewart puppy pad holders because I read it was really good, but ... It's just a rubber mat. Lol, it doesn't even hold the pee pad! Oh well, I guess it protects the carpet. I get Nilla's toys, food, and most everything else at the other business in town because it's better quality.

| I've never really shopped at Petco much because they don't carry much that suits our needs. We have however, bought a few things from them in the past. We won't be doing it again. |

| I don't think there's a reason to boycott Petco, personally. It's a terrible, horrible thing that occurred. Believe me, I am a drowning awareness advocate and run a drowning charity foundation, but this was a matter of management at one store. It had nothing to do with corporate Petco, IMO, and to ban every store seems silly. Just like when my little brother drowned at a country club pool... it was THEIR management, it was THEIR lifeguards, the way they ran a business. I would not go around boycotting all pools because some are run very nicely with adequate training, management, etc. My local Petco is fine... all the employees are always friendly and helpful, the training classes seem to get good reviews, it's obviously managed okay. This one wasn't. So I will still be shopping at Petco mainly because that is where the food that Jackson eats is sold and I haven't seen it anywhere else yet, either.

| PetCo does sell puppies, exotic birds, kittens and other animals. There are two of these stores within a 50 mile radius of where I love. 100 animals died in the flooded area about 40 miles from me. The manager was warned over a day ahead of time of the possible flooding. The night of the flood employees came to the store and wanted to take the animals out but the manager refused to let them and locked those poor animals in the store. The flood waters were 5 feet deep. |
