| Weird/unusual eating habit? My dog has the opposite of food aggression. He does not want to eat or drink unless I am right there beside him. He will find things to cover up his food with if I leave the house and don't take him with me (towels, blankets, clothes or whatever he can find and he will cover his food and water bowl. He is a three year old that I saved so I don't know his history. I am just curious what causes this and if it is bad or should I indulge it? A lot of the time I end up at my computer with my foot touching his water or in the kitchen hand feeding him. |

| I saw something like this before on It's Me or the Dog -- can't remember what she did to solve it, but maybe you can find the episode?

| Is it necessary to "solve it" though? I mean is it a really bad thing? |

| I think it is fine. Many Yorkies won't eat while their humans are gone. Yours is probably just protecting the food until he is ready to eat. Usually it is puppies that want their people right beside them while eating. Max did his first year. In time, he may quit doing this on his own.

| arg, i feel this! Ziggy does the same thing.. to the extream that he will stop eating and walking away with me if i leave the room. i have now just decided to stay in the room with him till he's done eating. or i take a hand full out with me and hand feed him. BUT i know this wont work once i have a job, so i actually gave food time a command. i tell him "eat" then once he starts i walk out.. he's getting really good with this and will usually stay and finish then come find me. also i free feed him, so he nibbles through the day so i dont worry too much about him getting enough food. by the end of the night he's finished most of his food.
