I grew up with GSDs and I can tell you this - I would not allow one in the house with my yorkies. I don't care how well it is trained. I know others disagree here but I'm not risking my yorkies. They can play with each other and others like them (meaning 15 lbs or under). We cross the street when we see big dogs, I have zero interest in socializing with them. Before anyone calls me a big dog hater again don't bother - I grew up GSDs and so did my husband and we love the breed. I just love my yorkies more and I don't think large dogs belong in households with yorkies. My opinion and I'm sticking to it.

| YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I have 2 big dogs, one Yorkie. Playing together no. Yorkie is allowed out with our big male in the backyard for pee/poo, but not with our big female. When we are home they are now all allowed to have free roam of the house. If we go out Razz is Xpened and one of the two Blackies. Like Steve, if a break in occurs, they will have to deal with Magic or Zoey, and sometimes both. Night time Razzle is crated, Blackies are free. The only activities they do together is obedience training, agility, and swimming. We used to do leash free parks together, not now, as Razzman is a little stinker and instigator and runs to the big dogs for protection. lol If we go to leash free park, I take in one at a time.

| Right now my youngest at 6 months and 7 and a bit pounds is being care for by a friend with a 130 pound BRT and they are out with each other playing. With Adults watching. I have pic of the youngest curled up with the male BRT having a chat. It depends on the dogs and the state of the day but in our house there is not messing with the yorkie as Old girl rules. So trickle down on that is that no one messes with the new kid on the block either. It is all in the socialization of the dogs as to how comfortable they are with a smaller dog. accidents can and do happen why one never leaves them alone without someone to watch over them. I do not let dogs ahng unattended anyway no matter the size. JL

| We have Guinness, a 15-month old Rottie+Husky, and Zoey, 4-month old yorkie, and they get along just fine! Guinness is very gentle and patient while playing with Zoey. In fact, if we have to pull them away from playing, it's because of Zoey; she gets so into playing and aggressive enough to bite his ears or collar. They both share their toys and sometimes will each from each other's food/water bowls. They always walk together around the neighborhood! At night, Zoey will sleep in my room while Guinness sleeps in another room. It's too cute, they'll even look for each other in the mornings right after waking up! |
