| Please help !! My 9 year old yorkie, Tampa is in heat and refuses to stop whining ! if she is awake shes whining ! whether shes outside or were petting her, she whines ! I took her to the vet and he said shes doing it for attention and to ignore her. BUT the longer we ignore her the louder she gets and her whines turn into barks and her barks turn into howls !! its awful ! i need advice ASAP !! |

| She's 11 years old! Obviously she has been in heat before, has she acted like this? I would suspect that she has developed a uterine infection and is in pain. I would get her to a different vet AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I don't know of any reputable breeder that would condone breeding a yorkie until she's 8. Obviously, the advice her vet is giving you isn't working, so stop ignoring her. She's trying to tell you something, find a vet that will listen.

| shes not only been to her vet. my husband just brought her home from the emergency clinic. they said the same thing. they have done every test on her. nothing is physically wrong with her. and i didnt say any breeder should breed until they are 8. im just saying its still a safe age. you should really only breed them until they are 5. |

| I don't know why your dog is crying. If she is not sick, then she is probably protesting the new dog. In time she will stop. I am sure this is very trying. Maybe your Vet should be called again, perhaps he can give her someting mild to help with her crying. I wonder why you have not spayed her. My friend lost a dog when it had to have surgery. She was terrified about having her Yorkie put under anesthesia so, she never had it spayed. It is ironic that her dog developed a huge cyst on her ovary and had to have surgery when she was 10 years old. She had the surgery and was fine. Two posts were made while I was writing. I agree with Rhetts mama take her to another vet.

| If this vet condones breeding a female Yorkie for that long I would have to question the vet's professional ability to diagnose the dog. If the dog just started whining when it went into heat it would indicate that there is something medically wrong connected to the heat cycle. It is highly unusual for a dog to whine constantly for no reason. Dogs don't just complain about noting. It's suffering. The dog is older and I assume it has not whined constantly all it's life. Any reputable medical person would be doing tests to find out what is wrong. |

| My Shanti went into heat twice before I got her spayed. She was my first female dog and I had no clue what I was doing. When she came on her 2nd heat, she whined and cried for the dog across the street. She tried to get out, he tried to get in. She would sit at the glass door staring and whining for hours. She never did that before heat and her appointment was right after heat and she has never done it again.
