| Is THIS one an Australian Terrior Mix, too? Every time I look for a Yorkie at a local shelter, it is posted as a yorkie but ends up being an Australian Terrior. Do you think this guy is a real yorkie? lol His face doesn't seem like one. Unfortunately, I'm allergic to most dogs other than Yorkies and Tibetan Terriors. Thanks guys for all your help. You've saved me from a lot of headaches. |

| No, that looks like a Yorkie to me. Aussie's are usually very easy to tell apart because they often have wirey hair (that needs to be stripped, NOT shaved or groomed like a Yorkie) and they have a more distinct look. Here is an Aussie.

| This is my baby Sadie Mae, she is 100 percent silky terrier. She is a lot lighter than a yorkie.

| I think personally its pretty hard to tell. Not all australian terriers have the standard haircoat, and it often looks and feels like yorkie hair. I have groomed australian terriers that have hair just like yorkies. And same goes for yorkies, there are alot that are much larger than the standard, and such huge variety in haircoat. I goom a yorkie that is the size of an australian terrier and looks alot like one, but i have seen both parents and she is a yorkie for sure!!!! Personally the above photos look alot like an australian terrier to me, but then again, like i said i have seen alot of yorkies that looked like that too. |

| Thank you for your responses. What does anyone else think? Yorkie or Australian terrior? Or mix? The fur on his face looks like that of an Australian terrior, I think. |

| If there is any doubt that he's pure Yorkie, and your very allergic to any other dogs, then my suggestion is to just adopt a Yorkie through a reputable breeder.

| Or you could always try one of those dna breed test. Otherwise you will never know for sure. I think it would be soooo much better to adopt than buy from a breeder if at all possible The dna test are only like 50 or 60 dollars at the petco in our area. |
