| Fergie: 96 hours in Well, it's already been a whole four days since we picked Fergie up. A few items of note for her first week, both positive and negative... 1. Sleeping well at night. She has her own crate for now and hasn't had any issues thus far. 2. No potty accidents. She's potty trained but I know a new home can throw that off. However, she's slept thru the night with no accidents (well, no accidents and hasn't woke me up..lol). OK, she had one small potty accident but I caught her. I think I scared her and she dropped a little poop ball. Carried her outside but she didn't go after about 10 minutes. Came back in with no problem. 3. Getting along with the dogs. She tries to jump up and kiss/lick Ginger. There hasn't been any growls for the most part. 4. Getting along with cats...by ignoring them. The cats being so independent typically just lounge around and ignore her. She's reciprocated in kind. 5. Barking; good and bad. No barking at night but when I put them in the crates before heading out to work she started barking yesterday and I can hear her out at the garage. I certainly hope she doesn't do that all day.. for her sake. She's always very excited to see us when we get home. 6. She needs to be trained...hoping at age 4 it isn't too late (remember, we thought she was 12-18 months per the shelter). Mainly just to have better control over her in situations. 7. She seems very well behaved on her leash. She doesn't exactly "heel" but she doesn't wander too far off. I have one of the retractable leashes and I just have to lock it and have it stop her and she'll actually head back in my direction. And unlike my Golden, she can't pull me over when she sets her mind to it..lol. 8. She doesn't like to cuddle. I was hoping for that based on many posts I've seen here on YT. I don't know if it was her prior owner or just her disposition. She'll lie next to me for a while on the couch but then go on the floor near me but not "next" to me...just out of arms reach. Same in the bed. Not sure if that may change with time as she becomes more fully acclimated with the house. All in all I think she's adjusting very well to her new home. A few things I'd change and I certainly would love to have her skin condition clear up although in reality I know that will take some time. It pains me to see her suffering and chewing herself up. Hopefully the vet is wrong and this won't be a lifetime issue for her. |

| It sounds like Fergie is adjusting remarkably well. I think over time, she will become a snuggler.....it sounds as if she has made great strides already. As per the skin issue...it could be something as simple as needing to change her food. I had a german shepherd that had a terrible itching problem with certain foods. Good luck, it sounds as if you are doing everything right!

| Give the snuggling some time. Mikki has been with us close to two months now and she is just now starting to be more loving with us. It is really big changes for them and they need that time to adjust. Plus, depending on her prior situation, they have to learn that they can trust you. I think you will see big changes in the next few months.

| My moms rescue Sammy wasn't much into being cuddled when they first got him but now he lays up next to her with his head on her and will do the same to my dad. When she would pick him up to just hold to cuddle he would last a second and then squirm but now he almost last a minute and is getting better. They have to learn and find out that they are not going to be abandoned again and are safe and loved as well as learn to trust you.
