| Looking for a new yorkie as mine have been kept from me :( I had a male and female yorkie that I adored so much. I purchased them while I was with my ex-fiance. When our relationship ended a couple months ago and I moved out, he threatened that if I took the dogs he would call the police on me for stealing. The female yorkie(Venus) was present for my birthday and the male(Brutus) was a x-mas gift. It killed me to leave that house without them but I did not want any legal trouble with my ex. I really want to get a new yorkie puppy now that I'm on my own and no one can take it from me. I live in Michigan near he Detroit area. Does anyone know where I should look?? |

If you are looking to get another pup, Breny, from Greens Treasured Yorkies is a member here who breeds in Michigan. I do not have one of her dogs, but I know very happy ppl who have gotten one of her little ones. She has a web site.

| I am so sorry! If the dogs are registered, who is listed on the registration? If they were gifts to you then you can fight him for them. |

| I agree if they were gifts to you, then they are yours! Call the law and you go get them if they are yours, don't let him scare you. |

| Oh no, I so sorry...can't imagine that heartache. I have to tell you, that cruel man would have had the fight of his life on his hands if he came after my dogs...cause they would have left with me....errrr. Men like that really tick me off! May be you can check into it further...a gift is a gift...periord. I so hope this all works out for you! Good luck.

| First of all I am sorry you have to deal with this. It must be really hard and stressful for you. If I were you, and those were my dogs, I would go take them, I would tell him also! I think that is what you should do!!

| If you decide to go get your babies I would like to suggest taking several friends with you. The bigger the better. NO touching the dude (not that he doesn't need it) but no touching you either. |

| I agree. Go fight for your babies! They were given to you as a gift, and if they are registered to you, you and only you have ownership of the pups. Take a friend or two and go get your babies!!!

| I knew a couple that divorced. The man had a dog that he left with his ex-wife when he moved out. She took the dog and had it put down after he left. That was a horrible thing to do, but sometimes bitter people do bitter things. Hopefully your ex loves the dogs and won't do anything like that. I know that the part you are concerned with is proving that the dogs belong to you and not to him. It's hard to say which way the law will swing. It hasn't been very good to me when I needed it, so I hope you have better luck than I have had. I just don't have much faith in law enforcement or the legal system anymore. Good luck with whatever you decide. I'm sure people here will support you either way. I hope you have a fuzzy face again VERY SOON!!! |

| I am sorry that this happened to you. But before I give advice I have a few questions. My first question is: 1. Why does he want to keep the dogs ? Is he a good Yorkie Dad and in love with them ? Does he truly believe he can take better care of them, than you can ? 2. Your post confuses me because you said, "I purchased them while I was still with my ex-fiance." Then you say they were gifts ? IF you do call the police or a lawyer better have your story straight. 3. If he is keeping the dogs out of spite or to hurt you, he may change his mind and give you the dogs. 4. Proven ownership: Who paid for the dogs ? Who paid the Vet bills ? Who is on (AKC or other club) papers ? Letters or birthday cards saying they were gifts ? 5. Do you have witnesses that saw him gave them to you, as a gift ? 6. Do you want them back ? 7. Why did you leave them there with him ? If they are your dogs, the police would not arrest you. If you were/ are afraid of him, the police would go with you to get the dogs. 8. Is your name on the lease do you still have a key ? 9. Can you afford and are you willing to take him to court ? 10. Please keep us up dated. |
