| Crate Vs. Bed For the last year, Bailey has been sleeping in her crate and she is fine with that. Last night I let her sleep with me, but she woke me up at 6 oclock this morning yelping to go potty. Does any body have a recomendation on to let her sleep in her crate or to have her sleep in my bed... but what to do for the 6 am thing. Thank you! |

| My dogs are just used to a daily schedule. Doesn't matter if its Monday or Saturday. They are pretty good about going back to the crate afterwards. As far as bed v crate...I know I'm probably in the minority bit they are dogs and not people. The crate is their space while the bed is mine. |

| Crate vs your bed is a personal choise. I have done it both ways and both work. Mina does sleep with us and if she wakes up around 6am,then I put my hand on her (hold her) tell her that it isn't time,"shhh go back to sleep". She goes back to sleep and we get up at a little later. She doesn't hardly ever wake up that early and if she does it is usually because my son is leaving for work, not because she really needs to go potty. If she can make it that long in her crate, then she can make it that long on your bed. |

| Alright I will try that.... I think she wakes up because she hears people. She does the same thing in her crate, when she hears someone upstairs she gets up. |

| Just try to calm her down. Either one is fine for most dogs. I let my first skip out on crate sleeping after she whined her head off about it. My second one sleeps in the crate most of the time. I don't want him to get used to being with somebody 24/7. I wanted him to be more independent and less whiney when left alone. Just depends on the dog..

| I think that is a very personal decision. I have my 2 year old sleeping in my bed. She has been sleeping with me since I brought her home at 12 weeks. I *tried* to get Toby to sleep with me at 12 weeks when we brought him home and he could not grasp the idea that the bed was for sleeping. He sleeps in his crate in the kitchen, but I get up and get him early and let him come on the bed with Chloe and I until I am ready to get up. |

| i agree wit the others. this is a personal desicion, but i can give you my experience.. I had every intention of crate training. but i caved on day 1- i couldnt handle him crying and it was upsetting my other dog. I got him when he was 8 weeks old, and he was little (he is now 18 weeks and 2lbs, dont know his weight at 8weeks) anyway, i felf ok with this because i am a very light sleeper and i put a bell on him, so at first he would move and i was up. I have big pillows going down the length of his side of the bed so he cant fall off. and i would just get up and take him to his pee pads and get back in bed.. Now he can hold it through the night. he wakes me up with sweet kisses around 7/8 to potty. then we get back into bed and i tell him- its still bedtime, go to sleep baby.. he knows what that means, so he will just fall asleep and we'll get up around 9.. i think they are pretty goog at learning our patterns so this wont take long. when he was about 13 weeks old he was sleeping through the night. mind you he isnt entirely potty trained, so i dont want him getting up by himself. by getting up with him i know there are no accidents on my carpet.. But i love sleepin gwith him so getting up to take him potty is a sacrifice i was willing to make..

| Dinky keeps making me change my mind. If I let him sleep with me, he eventually pees on my bed. He has always enjoyed peeing on blankets. He likes the initial warmth I think, and I do believe he adores the smell! I, on the other hand, do not appreciate either the warmth or the smell. Also, I know I sleep better, and I think he does too, when he is in his crate. |

| We don't sleep with our girls. I think it's much easier on them to have their own bed in the breakfast and kitchen area (breakfast area use to be a family room, so it's large) with their water dish and potty pads. This way they can chew on their chewy's, get a drink, walk around, play and potty whenever they want, and I can have a decent nights sleep, but I do get up at 7 to take them ouside for awhile and make them breakfast.

| I use to sleep with all my dogs. I got tired of sleeping in one position because they were all around me. So now they all have a kennel next to my bed and we all sleep great. |

| Cali uses a piddle pad and I have foam stairs next to the bed (got to be sure there are not holes to fall through though). She gets up early and goes to her piddle pad and then gets back in bed and usually I don't even know she has gone until I wake up and find she has used the pad.

| I started Chewie off sleeping in a crate. Just in the past month or so (he's about 16 mo. now), I've moved him into his own bed in my bedroom. He wakes me up to go out, and then we both go back to bed for another hour or so. He does NOT get to be on my bed

| Mine are currently sleeping in the master bathroom. They have their own beds and crate in there - but like to sleep on their beds. I had a ramp made for them for when they are a little older and I can trust them on the bed - right now they are too playful and I am nervous they will roll off in one of their play moments. Attached a pic of the ramp as it is pretty darn cute. |

| I love that ramp! I think I have decided to keep crating her. I think she needs her own space at night and not having her wake me up... She wakes up when she hears people, and I really don't need her yelling at me. She knows her crate is her space and she let's me sleep- or until she hears me |

| Roxie's bed is in the living room, and that is where she sleeps at night. She has never really seemed interested in sleeping upstairs with us in bed, and that's fine. SO doesn't really want her in our bed anyway. The one or two times I have brought her to bed with me, she just dances all around the bed and eventually jumps down (which she should not do because the bed is VERY high).
