| Respiratory problems, help please! Hi, My pup Sebastian seems to be having respiratory problems: I read a few articles, blogs about yorkies who tend to have allergies, bronchitis, collapsed tracheas etc. It seems to only act up in the afternoon/evening time and I think it is from the heat. We have the AC on most of the day but for some reason his wheezing lately has worried me a bit. Should I be worried and take him to the vet or should I just keep a close eye on him for a little longer? My grandma watches him during the day and she says that he doesn't breathe heavily at all during the daytime but when I come home, perhaps from the excitement his breathing acts up and then it takes hours and hours to go back to normal... has this happened to anyone before? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

| I would take this baby to the vet as you have no idea what might be going on. Struggling to breathe is not normal for a young dog with no health problems. Please don't wait any longer.

| I was watching Dogs101 and it said for the yorkie breed, you may hear wheezing and snorting. A lot of yorkies did on the show. But just in case, go to the vet. |

| I was also wondering about the reversed sneezing noise. better be sure than sorry, i would either call the breeder or take to the vet.

| My dog has reversed sneezed when she is excited or when somebody gets home. She also does it if she drank water to fast. We asked the vet once, and there were no worries. It actually happens with a lot of small breeds, especially Boston Terriers. |

| I would check with the vet just to be on the safe side. Roxie snorts sometimes when she gets up out of a sleep too fast. The vet said her trachea and everything is fine, it's just something that happens.

| I would definitely take your pup to the vet. There are multiple possibilities this could be, and ppl on the internet unable to examine your dog can't with any certainty narrow down the possibilities to just one cause. This could be kennel cough, collapsed trachea, reversed sneezing, bronchitis, heart issues, etc. It really needs to be evaluated by a vet. If you can take a video either w a camera or your cell phone when your pup has an episode, that would help your vet be able to see the same thing you see as it happens. This past Spring my yorkie had cough-like episodes. I took her to the vet and she had a case of kennel cough with an allergy component. She was put on antibiotics, cough suppressant, and allergy meds. Really cleared it up. Glad I went. Please keep in touch and let us know how you and your little one make out.

| I agree with everyone else. Go to the vet. Don't chance diagnosing yourself. Reversed sneezing is one thing but collasped trachea is another. You need to know what you are dealing with. Allergies, brochnical problems. Just better not to take any chances. Good luck and hope your baby gets better. |

| Ziggy was experiencing something like this and i asked the vet about it. for us it was allergies (to chicken, poor baby) anyway, you should probably go to the vet, just to be sure
