| When my SIL had her baby the dogs, Grace (min pincher) and Leo (boxer) slept in the room in their crates! The baby slept in the bassanet next to my SIL. Everything worked out well! When my other SIL had her baby her two pit bulls slept on the floor on their beds, or on the bed with my SIL, everything again worked out fine!! I think you need to think what is going to be comfy for you, and your furbutts! I agree with including the furbutts with the newborn.. they are family too!! And besides that's how pets learn to love the baby and protect them, is by being with them and getting use to the sounds and movements!!

| Kennels were moved from my room to living room, not my choice but whatever works to make it all functional: the dogs were stressed the first night they whined at the change. I started leaving the living room TV on all night though. Bought two large wire kennels instead of the box crates we used to have. Insignificant "other" flipped out...his drama not mine. Ironic I was the one who didn't want dogs on my bed even, and he's the one let them not only on it but to sleep on my bed numerous times. Scoobers has been pretty bummed about not being able to sleep on his bed in Milo's room and was so stressed on not being Milo's alarm clock for school but after the third week he adjusted (summer time helped I unplugged Milo's rocket alarm clock so Scoobers stopped whining to get to Milo for wake up kisses when it went off). It has been a transition here to say the least. I still watch Princess like a hawk but she's still a pup, Scoobers & Elvis were baby familiar and friendly. I still would never fully trust my furkids around a small skinkid...my dogs are taught to 'stay away' from babies it's more like stay back. I'm a little germ-phobic anyways and my furkids run in the backyard, my new skin kid requires everyone washing hands before touching so ye, I also have issues with allowing dogs t lick especially kids or on the mouth-there's no furkid contact at this time. Of course Marek loves watching the dogs play. As soon as he's mobile enough and big enough he'll be running with em like the rest of the kids, he is already 4 months now! LOL Marek outweighs all the dogs already too!

I completely agree with you...Whatever you decide make sure to do it BEFORE the baby gets here...That way your furbaby will not think he's being Kicked out...and gets used to the new schedule... Izzy sleeps in our bed everynight... I love that time to cuddle with her etc.. When my kids were babies, They never slept in our beds..lol... Good luck

| I raised 5 children. My dog always slept on my bed. I only had my babies in the bedroom the first 3 months and they slept in a cradle. It is dangerous to let a baby sleep with you with or without a dog. I never had a problem with my dog accepting a baby. Introduce the dog to the baby properly when it first comes home and your dog will accept the little one and consider it part of the family. Best wishes to you all. |
