| ![]() Pepper spray is good, but if a murderer is running around you might just make him mad using it on him. Can you own a firearm where you live? Take some safety and shooting classes. I carry 24-7. No worries. |

new-rock boots work a treat though! or any steel toed, heavy shoes- i did have to use them at one time (non-dog related), but have never really been afraid to go out at night- especailly with my girls (the largest dog i own is an elderly corgi) but they are hardly protection! we dont have a stray problem, but missy was almost attacked in a different area when she was little, but as i saw the dog running up i pulled her straight up into my arms via the lead- another reason i have my girls harnessed any time we are out. my safety when i'm out is my keychain... i have about 6-7 keys on it, but over a dozen keyrings and charms etc., as well as a personal alarm thing on them... so my plan of defence; activate alarm (by pulling out the pin and throwing it away), then keys to the face and boots to the ouchie place! oh, and then run of course!

| ![]() Be careful where you walk furbutt. I live in a fairly safe area, but when its dark, i always try and stay where the streets are well lit, and where there are doors i could knock on if i was worried. However safe your area is, its not worth taking any risks.

| ![]() Carrying a gun is (of course!) a personal choice. It may not be your thing, but if you want to walk where it may not be quite safe it may save your life! Pepper spray and heavy boots are a great deterrent for the normal thief, mugger, etc. But the OP is talking about someone who has killed being on the loose. I'm sorry, keys to the face probably won't work against someone like that. Realistically, she should probably stay home until this guy is caught. ![]() I personally would invest in some potty pads! Stay home and ride the exercise bike! ![]() |

| ![]() haha yeah ur right!! I never walk in the dark i am far to much of a wuss for that... i am scared of my own shadow and i am a very safe person. There was a few people down the river the other night but the men walkig alone unnerved me. Poppy is 4lb of fluff and is scared of ANYONE... a bit like her mother haha! I agree i should probs not go out alone untill he is caught. Me and my friend have decided to walk at 4pm when she finishes work every night so i am really pleased, i hope she sticks to her word. I have no garden where i live so Poppy needs a walk once or even twice a day. Poppy is puppy pad trained as she is only 4lb and i would not expect her to hold her wee wee or poop untill her walks. Peper spray is a really good idea, where would i get that?

i had thought that staying away from the area the murder took place until danger it gone- and staying in company and lit areas- was self explanatory. with any luck he will be caught and made to pay soon!

Donating YT 500 Club Member | ![]() I don't feel really safe anywhere. Bad things happen in the best of neighborhoods. We live in the country and where it's considered safe. But there are no sidewalks, and I have a hard time making it OK in my mind to talk Roxy in the road. It's like I'm teaching her it OK to be in the road. When I hear a car coming, we step off the road, and put her in a 'sit' till the car passes. It still doesn't feel right to me. I don't scare easily, but I watch the news too much I think.

| ![]() Now a days just how safe is it any where. We all have to practise caution and alertness no matter where we live. It's sad that you just can't walk get lost in thought and enjoy being with the pups. You can to a point yes. But I do find myself constantly looking left/right/behind/forward and this is because of people off leashing their dogs where they aren't suppose to be. plus there is fox and coyoties around. Sheesh.

OP: I'm glad you are taking precautions by going out with other people and only in the daylight! Where I live, I have some acreage with woods. I can walk there as it is out of sight, but anything can happen. As others have said, I hope the guy is caught soon so you can have a little peace of mind. | |

| ![]() I live in a Milwaukee suburb, and right near the ghetto. So I only walk Bailey early, because I fear she might get dognapped or I might get shot. |

| ![]() I live in Miami. I walk the "pack" in my little community and feel safe. I always have my cell in my pocket. There are a lot of areas I would not feel safe. I grew up in Virginia... heck we didn't even lock our doors. Different world ![]()
