| I am very sensitive to smells so I was worried about getting a dog and the doggie smells that come with it. However, I have a strict daily routine that keeps Clover smelling nice but doesn't dry out his coat or skin. People who meet him say he doesnt really smell like a dog! Still has a slight animal smell, (I think clover would be upset if he smelled of just shampoo all the time) but rather smells like a clean cat! Lol His day starts with eye specific wet wipes for eye gunk, then wet wipes for his ear 'flaps' and a cottonbud with a drop of ear cleanser for the squiggly bits! But not too deep. If his ear smells bit I spray on a scented doggie antibacterial solution on the wipes first. After chews, sometimes his beard might get a wet wipe to stop it matting with the sticky residue. (A lot harder to dematt later) He also has drinking water additive to prevent plaque, Plaque-Off in his food and his teeth are brushed every night before bed. After muddy walks I wash his feet only, and drying him really well after baths help too. (Use a hairdrier if necessary) He only gets a bath if he's been out in the rain or rolls in fox poo - about couple of times a month usually. Also, a really sunny day is good at getting rid of smells too. The sun kills off some of the bacteria that makes things smell. (If you have tupperwear you can't get some funky smell out of, leave it in direct sunlight for half a day. Trust me it works!) I know it sounds like a lot of work but it works and I think its worth it! I hope this helps! |

| When Hot Rod had his surgery i found a spray shampoo. This helped at that time since he couldn't be bathed for some time. i try to give them a bath every 2 weeks but I wipe the area around the eyes everyday with unscented baby wips. This seems to help with some of the smell.

| Thanks for all the suggestions. Choppa was just at the vet on Wed and he's healthy. Just that doggy smell from running and playing outside. I will do the wipes.

| I use Fresh 'N Clean Dog Cologne by Lambert Kay after each bath on Tibbe. His last bath was Sunday a week ago and I can still smell his cologne on him when he cuddles up with me today. It gets on the skin I guess and lasts and lasts. I do wash his face and toilet areas - and occasionally even his feet - fairly frequently between shampoo's.

| I always seem to end up with one doggie that has a funky smell for no reason. My bigger Yorkie has that now, even though we've had him almost 10 months and he's had time to adjust to top end food and regular baths and grooming so I am going to start him on some chlorophyll supplements. Those even work well for people with body odor problems and I have used them before with great results. They work from the inside out and don't just mask the smell and they are good for you or your pets. A blue-green algae supplement will often work, too, as they are high in chlorophyll. |

Bob Martin Ear & Eye Wipes for Pets its a perfect size for little dogs. Some wipes can be too big just for eyes and ears and it seems a waste. Perfect pocket sized packaging so I keep one in my bag as an emergency wet wipe! | |

| Careful with waterless shampoos they can be extremely toxic to animals despite being tested on them

| Your comments have really helped me but poor Crash will have to suffer the vet again I guess. He has occational fleas and has allergy issues but after I bathe him (only 1X per week) he can go outside for five minutes and comes back smelling like a wet dog or very fishy smelling. The vet gave me a spray before but it was not effective and the poor thing itches all the time. I will have to see about going to another vet I guess. |

| I prefer to use Pet Head Poof! Magical Deodorizing Spray. It really keeps my Jezzabelle smelling good since she absolutely is terrified of baths. |

| I spray Yorkie Sheen on my two when I brush them. Since I brush them daily, the Yorkie Sheen scent makes them smell great. I also give baths weekly and use a good shampoo and conditioner. You can find the Yorkie Sheen at Yorkie Splash and Yorkie Shine | Yorkie Shampoo and Yorkie Conditioner

| Oh glad this thread popped back up...anyone else use WEN on their dogs? The pumpkin smells great on dogs! After switching to WEN I'll never use anything else on my family or my dog's again. It's a process but seeing it's effects are incredible.

| Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | We bathe Katie Scarlett once a week. We also give her a booty/woo woo bath after each visit to her potty pad. So far we haven't had any issues with her smelling. We use these PetHead 'Come Clean' wipes on her and she smells so good. I love to sniff her! LOL

I agree the Yorkie Splash, Shine and Sheen stuff if great. Smells super and the good smell stays around for a good while. I bath weekly faithfully, and sometimes more often if needed. Cali really likes to be clean!
