| Avascular Necrosis Hi, I'm fairly new and just found out that my beloved 7 month old Yorkie, Bentley, has avascular necrosis in his back hip balls! They are dying off due to lack of blood supply. Im an operating room nurse, so I am a little bit familiar with this, but did not know dogs got this condition! Now I find there are many dogs that have it! Just wanting some input! BTW I live south of Chicago! Thanks ORRN |

| That sounds like Legg Perthes ... if it is going to happen, it develops around the age that Bentley is now. Find a good orthopedic surgeon for him, dogs that have the surgery and heal well go on as if they've never missed a beat.

| I am sorry to hear this, bless his heart he is so young. I have talked with the breeder you got him from to see if any of the other puppies have this? What is the prognosis for this. I know very little about all the different type health issues with Yorkies

Here is a link to another thread that has lots of good information on it, as well as some links you can click on to read more about this disease. You can private message the posters on this thread to ask about their dogs with Leggs Perthes and surgery and rehab etc. I'm so sorry your pup has been ddx'd with this but it looks like surgery has a high success rate...that's good news. Just make sure to do all the pre-op blood work, and definitely notify the breeder of your pups condition.
