Hoping all is well with Deeogi. |
How is Deeogi doing now? Will the woman responsible be taking care of his bills? |

But I have to say this. Would any of you have your Yorkie put down if it attacked and killed a rat? Of course not, it is what this breed was bred for. Sadly, pit bulls have been bred to have increased dog aggression and that is why they are NOT for the average or novice. That pit, sadly, did what genetics, and environment told it to do. And it was in the hands of someone that didn't know how to redirect their dogs natural inclinations. I have had a 12 year old old lady that NEVER had any dog aggression issue in her life remember, oh, I am a pit bull, and proceed to try to kill her long time companion. But never again after, it is something that all pit owners should be aware of. It is possible. I will add to that... Little dogs are notorious for picking fights they cannot hope to win. They don't know this. But they THINK they can, and that makes all the difference to them. Having had to PICK UP a 60 lb pit and hold it in the air to keep him from eating the chihuahua or some other toy snapping at his and my heels while the owner goes, "oh it's OK, he won't hurt your dog", and ineffectively try to catch their nasty little dog, on numerous occasions, is it any wonder MY dog then hated little dogs. While my dogs would never hop a fence to go after any dog, I am a proactive owner, and the only dogs my dogs have ever bitten were my own dogs here and there over the years because toys and such. The rambling point I'm trying to make, being distracted in several directions is it would be better to give the dog to someone that can handle it, rather than put it down, especially not knowing the history of this dog. I am not condoning vicious pit bulls, never that. But one attack should not mean that either dog pays with their life. With pit bulls, that is the knee jerk reaction, Kill it, kill it, kill it. And that bothers me. Again, I hope for Deeogi's speedy recovery, and I hope he isn't traumatized by this. |
I think dogs bred for their aggressive tendencies and ability to kill in the fighting ring do pass on those genes to other dogs in the litter that do get out into the public at large and many unprepared owners buy them. Lord only knows how many passive aggressive bully dogs there are out there with these genes coursing through their veins. I wish only people who are very familiar with aggressive, powerful breeds and capable of proper leadership and training were the only ones that could have these dogs - and those should be required, if they live in the city, to have at least 6 foot tall fences as a pitbull can get over a Cox fence in a heartbeat. My son works rehabbing pits so I know it is possible but the rehabbed, formerly aggressive dogs only go to very experienced aggressive-breed-familiar forever homes w/out children and with very secure premises. I love pitbulls and all their derivations! I love every breed of dog - cannot help myself. I even love Dalmatians - even after that one did its best to kill my little Jilly. I would have a pitbull in a heartbeat (if I had no other dog) except for the potential for the deadly aggressive gene and the fact that I only have a Cox fence. Besides, I am a Yorkie person and want to spend my time around them but being a dog lover, I do love all the breeds. |
