Prayers Needed - Our yorkie was mauled....

Still praying that little Deeogi makes a full recovery. I have to say that I am in agreement that you need to contact animal control or the police about this incident. I know that in some places there are extra laws concerning pit bulls, pit mixes, and other potentially dangerous dogs. Please don't allow this to go unreported and allow this dog the opportunity to attack again.

She got very upset and said there is no way that happened Tank (that's pit's name) would never have pulled your yorkie through fence. I asked then how did his leg get so torn up? she didn't respond. I reminded her that my yorkies never dig holes or try to get out of our backyard. She told me she didn't have anymore money to pay anything else.
I left to go see Deeogi and while I was gone my daughter said that she was taking picture of the fence. This stressed me out even more because I don't know what she's up to.

So if she tries to argue that my yorkie got out on his own (which I already know didn't happen) isn't she still liable because her pit was on my property?

For those of you who said to call animal control - I am afraid to because I have 5 yorkies 1 chihuahua rescue and 1 white boxer rescue. I also dog sit other yorkies every so often. So I know she would also report me

Oh, I am so sorry your baby is hurting but thank God it sounds like Deeogi will survive. The next dog this pit attacks likely will not. You have to think of the public safety issue as that pit's next victim could be a toddler out on its front porch! You must do the right thing and report this dog. AC will likely work with you and your rescues but even if they won't, you still must make them aware a dangerous animal lives in that area that can readily jump its fense or other wise get off its property. You would feel just horrible if this dog's next victim is a little child.

I pray that little Deeogi can return to a normal life and full function. He's been through so much and it sounds like your calm reassurance when you found him and on the way to the vet did a lot to calm him during his pain and stress. I have been through a very similar experience with my last Yorkie and know how hard it is to be calm when you think your dog is dying in your arms from a viscious attack. You stress has got to be at peak level as well, so try to take some time to decompress if at all possible.

Do not let your neighbor frighten and bully you. Her dog attacked yours in your yard and she is solely responsible. She must be made to quarantine that dog and report the results of it to your vet and she must be made to make permanent arrangements with AC for how she intends to ensure that this tragedy never happens again. You could save another dog owner or parent from what you have just gone through with a phone call to AC.

I am so sorry this happened. I am praying for your baby to get well quickly and have a complete recovery.

A friend of mine had her little yorkie attacked by a Rottie on her deck and the little guy's stomach was ripped open. A great vet saved his life and he was so lifeless during the first part of his recovery it was scary. He pulled though just fine and you would never know he was hurt except for the big scar on his little belly. He isn't even afraid of other dogs. The people reluctantly paid all the vet bills in installments. Yeah, they didn't want to pay the bills either and said they couldn't afford it. I believe the police told them they had to pay it.

Another friend had her Dalmation killed (poisoned) by her next door neighbor. After she filed a report she got calls from three of the TV judges who asked her to appear on their shows to get compensation for her dog. She was flown to Chicago and appeared before the judge (I think his name was judge Brown) and when the accused guy showed up in court so drunk he couldn't even stand up he lost his case and was ordered to pay for her dog then and there. She only asked to be compensated for the cost of the dog and that was what she got. I think she should have been awarded more than that but he gave her what she asked for.

I would tell the neighbors that they can either pay you now for the rest of the vet bills (and there probably will be more coming up), or you can take them to court to get the money. Hopefully they will now want to go through court and will pay you.

I am with the others who have posted about the reporting. I know a couple of people who have nice pitbulls but most that I know I would not get close to. Since this one has attacked you need to report it.

As far as the bill is concerned, please go and talk to the office manager at your vets. If they undertand the situation they might be able to work out a payment plan with you. They know that you are trying to do what is best for this baby and so are they.
