| new yorkie owner I am a new yorkie owner and he has been the best dog so far. I am confused if he can have rawhide bones or not. He has ate the squeekers and stuffing out of every toy I have bought. I don't want to give him anything to hurt him. I have a St. Bernard and she eats the bones with no problems. I know he is a lot smaller. |

| Hello and Welcome to YorkieTalk. Congrats on your new little one. I am sure there are many opinions about rawhide. My opinion is not give pups rawhide because of potential choking.

| Hi there and Welcome to yorkietalk Your baby is adorable. I do not give rawhide bones to my two. I have heard that they can splinter up. I give mine bully sticks which ar every safe. I still don't let them have a bully stick unless i can supervise them and make sur ethey are safe.

| I let Bella chew on a rawhide, but I supervise her. She has a staight one that whe buries/hide. The one she chews on has the knots on each end. She's never ate one. But I wouldn't let her because of what I've read. Have fun with your new addition. They love to walk. |

| Hi! Welcome to YorkieTalk. What is your little boy's name? I personally don't feed rawhide to my dogs because I have heard it can cause internal blockage. Not sure if that is right or not, but just don't want to take a chance. I feed bully sticks to mine and they love them and they are digestable. Also, I believe I would buy toys without squeakers and/or stuffing so he can't get the squeakers out and swallow them, or eat the stuffing. Have a wonderful evening!

| I never give mine rawhide. I bought them bullysticks but they would inhale them so I don't buy them anymore. I only give them the small Nylabones, I throw those away if they get too small. I also quit buying anything rubber, including Kongs, because they chew off pieces, stuffed toys, because they pull out the stuffing and rope toys because they chew and swallow the rope and it comes out in there poop. I have bought the Skinny animals with no stuffing, they pulled out the squeaker, but they haven't destroyed those yet. Welcome to the wonderful world of Yorkies. Cute pictures, looks like she needs a Cloud 9 bed from Yorkie Haven Rescue.

| Thanks for all the comments. Bently has a "stuffed" dog as big as he is we play fetch with. All the stuffing has come out so it sounds like we are good. Yes he loves to walk. We go every night. I will have to find this bully stick and give it a try. Thanks for all the advice! |

| Congrats on your new puppy he is SO cute I am sure that you are going to just love having a Yorkie in the house as they are just wonderful little guys I too would recommend that you not give your little one rawhide. My girl was given rawhide before I realized that there can be some dental issues with Yorkies. I have actually just made arrangements for her to have her teeth cleaned as there are two areas that I found with very hard "chunks" in her back teeth. The vet also believes as I do that these are from rawhide bones. Even with brushing her teeth every second day I still missed these somehow and its costly to have teeth cleaned professionally One of the biggest health concerns with Yorkies is dental health. I would also suggest that you get your little one used to having his teeth brushed. I use special gloves with brush like finger tips and a dense enzyme paste which is a little pricey but works very well. I agree the Nylabones are great and they dont break apart. I just joined YT myself and this is a fantastic place to get advice and learn all about your little guy. The folks here are terrific and super helpful |

| I have had my dogs throw up eating rawhides so we don't give them anymore. Our dogs really like chewing on Nylabones. When they get chewed up pretty bad we just throw them away and get new ones. My dogs also liked rope bones. Congrats on your new baby! |
