Do you have Poppy home yet? How did the spay go? I hope everything is alright. |
1 Attachment(s) Poppy is home now and everything went fine. She's really doped up right now and her face is soaking wet because she's been drooling lots. She is lying on her new bed in a baby grow feeling very sorry for herself. The vet told me to give her a drink but not any food for a couple of hours, so I gave her a drink and she drank lots then sicked it all back up :( I have left the bowl of water near her but she\'s not drinking it right now, do you think I should take it away? Also they didn\'t give us any pain meds or mention them at all? She may need a pee but I don\'t think she has the energy to get up and let us know right now, and it\'s raining outside so I don\'t really want to put her out there. Any suggestions? You might just let her sleep a little while longer and then try just a little water. I think that I would call the vet and ask if there is something they could prescribe just for the night if she needs it. Staying on top of the pain the first night will help you both rest better. Keep us updated |
I'm so happy to hear everything went well this morning. :) |
So glad Poppy's surgery went well and that she is home with mommy where she belongs. She needs rest right now. I think she will let you know when she wants something. Just keep an eye on her and be at her beck and call. :) Let us know how the rest of the day goes. |
The rain has stopped so I carried her outside for a pee, she peed then wagged her tail a little bit :) now she is back in her bed. Called the vet to ask about pain meds and they said she has had a pain killer injection so she should be okay for now, if she seems distressed call them back and they will give me pain meds. And she is back next weekend for a check up. I have been told to give her either some boiled chicken or scrambled egg in about an hour. |
Yea! Happy to hear all went well with Poppy. Sounds like everything is going well. I have always given my boiled chicken with rice when they have an upset tummy or need a very bland food. If she is wagging her tail she is well on her way to a full recovery. Don't be surprised if she sleeps all day and most of the night. |
She is still sleeping now (on her new bed at my feet) and hasn't tried to drink any more. I was going to give her some scrambled egg or boiled chicken soon but I don't want to wake her. Do you think I should wait another couple of hours and see if she perks up a bit before giving her food? I don't want her to be sick again. |
I'm so glad that Poppy is back home with you and that she did well during her spay. My vet always recommended withholding food and water for a several hours after my girls had any anesthesia. Poppy was probably given fluids during her spay, and I'm sure she'll let you know when she is feeling hungry. |
Thank you :) |
Aww, I'm so glad Poppy is back home and everything went well. Hopefully, she will just continue to rest on her new bed. I'm sorry I didn't see this thread before. I know how stressful it is to think about the risks involved in any surgery, especially when in the long run you feel it is best for their health and well being. |

I will post a picture of her stitches when she wakes up so you can take a look at them, they look so gory to me I just want to know if they look normal. |
