| First day at school Basil and Caper were dropped off at Obedience School today at 9 am and will be picked up at 5 pm. Thought Marge would break down as her sons left for their fitst day. They will be going for 3 weeks, and are in good hands. Same place where Carlo was trained, and a great facility with 2 outstanding trainers. Normally the dog will stay there 24/7 for the 3 weeks but could not convince Marge. I am surprised she even let them go at all as she wants them here all the time. She warned me when she is out of town that I had best pick them up on time, and not let them spend the night. They will do fine as both are real smart, yet ......well, they are Yorkies. |

How exciting for Basil and Caper! I have to side with Marge on this one. I would be a nervous wreck too. They are our little furbabies. Mommas have a hard time letting go you know. I love the warning she gave you!

| And when do you get trained? Ha that didn't come out right. I was under the belief that it's best for the owner to train the dog... how does this system work? Sounds intense if they work with them day in and day out for 3 weeks.... so they come back to you fully trained?

I dogsit a Lab who went to one of these "boot camps" for 2 weeks and the owner now keeps a prong collar on him 24/7, pops the leash all the time, etc. Don't get me wrong, he walks better, but he doesn't seem all that more well behaved to me. I think if the owner put in more time with him, he'd be a much better dog. I hope they are using positive reinforcement. But I am happy to hear they are doing well and can't wait to hear of their progress!

I have trained many dogs over many years, but after I sent Carlo to this school, I was sold and said any more dogs I have will go there. All done with positive reinforcement and praise. No shock collar, no prongs, no yelling, no treats for doing the task. A correction, do it again, praise. Start out slow, and add and reinforce each day. After the Boys are trained, Marge and I will go XX number of times with them, and we will work as a team. I did it with Carlo, who was trained to eventual off leash, and then when he was 3 and mature, protection training. That is one of them ain reasons carlo is a gentle Giant that I would trust around young and old, big and small. As one person said, to each their own. I know where they go is the best, and could do a better job than I could, especially with Marge traveling and lifes other little responsibilities. The Pups do not work for 8 hours, THere sessions are short, and fun, break, rest, repeat. | |

That was the case with the Airedale we adopted, and with Teddy, who stayed with our breeder until he was 8 months.

| I think the training sounds like an excellent facility and obviously with experienced trainers. I also know Steve, you would have only the best for your boys If only I had school like that or maybe I should say could afford a school like that , Zhoie could learn not to be so skiddish. I'll be checking back for progess updates...can't wait to see them graduate
