Thumbs up What do you guys think of the puppy apartment?

Heyy guys! I haven't posted in a while, as i have been busy with exams and such. I was getting Jasper this year, but it came down to the decision that next summer would be much better due to personal reasons. I want the very best for him, and am willing to wait. So, I want to train Jasper to use the bathroom indoors, as I live in Canada, and it gets very cold here. I was thinking about buying this Puppy apartment, but am not sure if it would be worth the extra money then just buying disposable pee pads. So what better way to make the best decision then asking fellow Yorkie owners! (Especially the ones on yorkietalk ) Even though you probably don't know me, as I have not posted much yet, I spend day after day browsing forums, so i really feel like i can talk to you guys, and I know you! So if you could just browse around on the site I provide and tell me if this is a good thing to have, besides disposable pee pads, that would be great!

Puppy Apartment

Thanks a million!

Its a good concept.
I did kind of the same thing....but i bought an xpen from Petedge.
I put his bed/play area at one side and a pad on the other side.
ProSelect Suite Retreat Pet Pens | PetEdge.com

Riley has full run of the bedroom now so now instead of the xpen, I have a Purina second nature doggie litter box with a pad inside it, in the corner of the room. I also have a diaper genie for the used pads so there is no smell in my place.

Riley is trained to go outside, or inside.

Good Luck!!

OMG....I was really curious to see what this was and when I went to the site and saw it....please don't take this wrong, nothing personal towards you....but this is in my view the silliest thing I have ever seen for the price they are asking. It appears to be a cage with a potty pad inside , and they are asking for monthly payments for it. I know in my area I can get that same cage for about 40 bucks or less, so why on earth would I pay a company 40 bucks a month for the same cage.

I really thought this would be something special, so if you ask me I say stick to the potty pads,

Cynthia

Thanks for the quick feedback guys! I agree it is way to much money, and I really like the idea of getting a much cheaper xpen and having it the way you did Riley (: , And once he is fully trained i think i will also get the litter box and diaper gene! Terrific idea! And don't worry cowgirl, i am very open to opinions and won't take any helpful words the wrong way

I don't understand why it is so expensive? Monthly payments?! It's just a wire crate. I have a huge one for my two (think great dane size), and I got it on Craigslist for $40. I would save your money and buy some potty pads and a crate.

And you can buy the large potty pads (for humans) at Sam's Club for alot less $$$$ if you decide you want to train for mostly indoor pottying.

I started with a child's play pen I got at a yard sale for $5 - made 1/2 side to play and the other side put the potty pad. Similar to what has been mentioned earlier.

It just looks like a regular crate with a pee pad in it.. If you wanted to you could just buy a crate for a lot less and place a potty pad in there.
I have two small dogs, and when I first brought home little Suzi she chose a potty spot, so I just placed a pee pad there. I heard that some pups do not like to poop in the same place the pee, So i placed anther pad next to the first one. Suzi used them easily. When I brought hoome Miely a year later she took to the pads fast. I think it was because of Suzi using them. I live in a apartment right now, so i just placed the pads along the hallway not close to where they eat. I change them nearly daily. the regular pads are suppose to have a scent to them that attracts dogs to go potty. My brother and family use the adult size ones, but I do not think thay have the scent. They are much bigger though. I thought about trying the Potty Patch. It is fake grass in a square shape, they pee in there, and it collects down on the bottom tray. I know every time i take my 2 out they will go on the grass after walking a little bit. Their a several different types of potty patch around. I just don't know how successful they are. My 2 dogs are now 2 and 3 yrs old. Fully trained to use the pads. Their are also some members on YT that sell re useable potty pads.

I don't understand. A dog crate with pee pads in it? That is not exactly a novel idea. I bought pee pads for Gracie when I first got her. I quickly decided to buy the frames for them as they are way too much fun for a puppy to pull around and play with on their own. Once the pee pads were locked in the frames she stopped trying to pull them all over. She knew right away that this was where she was to go potty. I just had to have her in the right area. The older she got the farther away she could get from her potty and still find it in time. If you are going to be gone quite a lot an area large enough for sleeping and pottying is necessary. I would get a pen big enough for a pee pad frame and a dog bed and a food and water area. I don't know how big of a pen they are selling for a small dog but you probably could find a better deal else where and probably get a bigger pen.

I agree with everyone on here...looks like a big create with puppy pads in it! Cheaper to just do it yourself?

Seems like a HUGE waste of money. I would just use the piddle pads in one spot that you want your buddy to go & praise them when they use it.

I have an x-pen for Teddy and he LOVES IT! It is a bigger one 4X4. He has his bed, toys, water, potty pad, etc. He sleeps in there at night and stays in there when we aren't home. Ours folds up so we are able to take it places with us. I think the brand we have is precision.

Just looks like a crate! And fyi, when Gabby pees in her crate, she thinks it's gross & balls up in the corner after she pulls all of her toys away from it.

Haha, thanks so much for all your opinions, i just saw this and i never really thought to look at how much crates were, since i have never bought one. I am definitely not buying it now, i can't believe I didn't think to just get a cheaper crate and put a bed and pee pad in it *hits forehead* , He will only have to sleep in the crate until he is potty trained, then it is my bed , There is almost always someone here, so i don't worry much about him staying in a crate all day. Thanks again!
