It depends on the yorkie. Kaji's head hair grows slower than his body hair. I clipped his body hair down several times before his hair was long enough to put up. I use a tiny claw clip to put his hair up and one snap clip to keep the shorter fly aways from hurting his eyes.

just a fair warning to all the boy loving mommies that want to try a topknot for the first time. People cannot seem to mind their own business when it comes go this subject. Whether complete strangers, or family members, everyone seems to want to speak their mind on what they think YOUR boy looks like with a topknot. Most of he time it is extremely negative. My own brother has called Kaji a f** dog because I keep his bangs long for the topknot. People can be really cruel when they want to be and for no good reason.

Just got back from late lunch in town. The server referred to ZoE as "He" twice!!! She was wearing her Zebra bow, harness & leash. So people must think boy yorkies wear bows too.
