| I've been googling different cleaners, trying to remember which ones I have and haven't tried. ![]() I'm thinking the Zymox Ear Cleaner is one of only a couple that I really liked for Chelsea's smelly ears, but I tossed the bottle after accidentally leaving the cap loose for a couple of days. I figured the alcohol would have evaporated so it wouldn't have the same drying action. It's gotten to the point that I've tried so many I can't remember which were the ones that worked best on her.

The Vet told me to use VIRBAC Corium 20 once a week. They used it to deep clean his ears 3 different times... They wanted to send me home with it for $21... I asked if I could find it online....and ended up buying it from Entirely Pets for $6.09. I Love...Love....Love it!! Smells like Baby Powder!!!!!!! Corium ear cleaner for dogs and cats | |

| I've never tried the Zymox cleaner, just the actual antifungal/antibacterial drops. A lot of people really like the BioGroom shampoo. The cleaner would be worth a try. I smelled the shampoo once though and the scent was so close to Skin So Soft. I'm not a fan, so the stuff doesn't come near my girl. I'm so picky that when talking about a medicated shampoo or cleaner, I'll have the vet open and smell first to make sure it's not gross. ![]() Even if the ears look okay, it's never a bad idea for them to swab and see what they get if anything. If they are getting something, then cytology is needed since there is a smell.

![]() I use the Biogroom tearless puppy shampoo for the head and faces when I bathe the pups - it smells more like baby shampoo or soap to me. I haven't tried their other shampoos but I do like the Biogroom line, so this may be worth a try. It's not the smell of the cleaners that bother me. They've all worked fine on my other pups. It's just that none have gotten rid of Chelsea's ear odor and that bugs me. ![]() I'm really curious about the coconut oil, but Alexander used to have a problem with yeast infections so I learned I have to use something with a drying agent that will also leave the ear ph balanced. I need to find out more about the CO oil....I do love the smell of coconut.

| Does your baby have hair in her ears? I know that when I have taken Suzi to the groomer they always get the hair out.. I am glad your baby does not have any type of infection going on, because that would be my first concern. I do have a ear powder that is suppose to loosen out any hair , then I can easily get any hair inside Suzi's ears. I have to make sure i use enough of the powder before trying to get her ear hair out. Because it will hurt her . I also have a ear cleaner . It says on the bottle R-7 ear powder step 1 and the cleaner is also R-7 step 2 Ear cleaner, reduces ear oder, safe for routine cleaning, aids to remove ear wax and derbris. Step 2 is a liquid solution. I bought both bottles in a small pet store.

My problem with ear cleaners is that I like the drying agent, but I worry about my guys transferring it to their eyes when they go nuts rubbing their heads after I apply it. Seems like some always drips out of their ear onto the long hair below the ear. I wipe off the excess, but it seems impossible to get it all off. I use VetSolutions and the smell is overwhelming to me and the doggies.

| This wouldn't work with an alergy, but when we used to raise scotties years ago, mine had a tendency to get a bacterial infection. A breeder told me to mix 50% sterilized water with apple cider vinegar and it worked better than what the vet had sold me. Just a stab in the dark, but if anyone has bacterial ear problems, you may want to try it out. Worked great for me!! If you use the white vinegar it is too harsh. By the way, I'd love to know where you people get that adorable little yorkie icon?? Thanks!! |

| I stopped by the little pet/ag supply store last night and the manager (great guy who's always been so helpful to me) encouraged me to go with the Zymox Otic without Hydrocortisone. I'm going to give it to her once a day for seven days then go to every other day for a week. After that, I can just use it on her weekly as I normally do with an ear cleaner - that is if it helps with whatever is causing the odor. I also checked to see what kind of cleaner it was the vet gave to me. It's TrizUltra+Keto by DermaPet. It's available OTC and I've really liked it the best so far, so I'll probably keep using it for the other pups because the Zymox is a lot pricier. Oh, and he also thought I probably was NOT plucking enough of Chelsea's ear hair. He said the ear powder works a lot better than the powder I've been using, and he recommended Biogroom's powder for Chelsea. I can't use it until I finish the initial Zymox treatments, though. Please cross your fingers that all of this helps! ![]() Thank you all so much for your suggestions and advice!
