| HATED the vet!! Sry have to vent.. Grrr.. I decided to give another vet a try after hearing some good things from friends who go there and I HATED the vet. She was sooo unprofessional. She was rude, pushy, foul mouthed, mean, rough, snappy and seemingly uneducated. I took him in bc I had found a couple fleas on him and some redish spots that looked like they were from them chewing on him Now as you all know, Harley is still in his "working on his aggression" phase and is not perfect. So when she grabbed him (she didn't let him sniff her hands before she touched him like I had told her to) and he was snippy. He reached around and nipped at her hands and made some weird noise I've never heard him make before. He was obviously annoyed or scared and before I could try and correct him myself she grabbed his "beard" on his muzzle and used her other hand to knock his feet out from under him and flipped him on his side and shook his face and yelled at him saying things like, "I'm bigger than you so back off!", "Go ahead and try and bite me again I dare ya!" So I'm thinking.. wow.. get off my dog but I let it slide.. I myself can have quite a temper so therefore I try to avoid confronations if at all possible. So she did this about 4 or 5 times throughout entire appt. When I told her that I had picked live fleas off his belly and combed out some eggs she said word for word, "Well, duh you're going to have to put him on advantix." BTW, I have NEVER had a vet speak to me like this and I personally (don't know if anyone feels the same) do not appriciate it in any way. I then told her how I wanted to avoid putting anymore chemicals on him since all of them include the warning signs reading "Avoid skin contact, contact with eyes or ingestion. If any of these occurs call poison control blah blah blah". She then said word for word,"Well, if you won't give him the chemicals then you're going to have fleas, end of story." So I told her, yes I know but there are other methods of controlling flea and tick problems with natural ingredients, like garlic. I told her that I knew that garlic is toxic to dogs in large amounts but she looked at me funny and said I was wrong. She said that dogs aren't allergic to garlic at all. Well, that was the point where I decided she was lacking in the basic intelligence/education dept.. I mean.. She is supposed to be a vet right .. So she looked it up in a book and to her own amazement (and obvious annoyance) she realized I was right. And it ends up that it takes about a quarter of a lb of garlic (or onion) to poison your dog. (it didn't have any size/weight ratios listed though) Then she went back to looking over Harley and tried to flip him on his back and of course he flipped out and started flailing his legs trying to steady himself and stay grounded and she got mad and pinned him and yelled at him again! This time I was getting really upset and offered to hold him for her so I did and he was shaking! She then went on to criticize me and tell me that she had NEVER heard of or see an aggressive yorkie. She said all yorkies are sweet hearts and that Harley must have some serious rare behavior problems. I then explained about how the first child he ever met kicked him and now he's aggressive towards them, how if you don't allow him to sniff you first (basically rush him) he'll be scared and nip etc and she said that I should consider putting him down bc he's so aggressive!? WHAT THE HECK!? I said, "Mam, he's only 8 months old and just recently got fixed and we're working on the aggression problem, he's a very dominant dog. And it is stated in their breed description that they do not do typically do well in families with young children bc they can have short tempers and will bite if annoyed or if they feel trapped or threatened.".. she laughed.. And told me I was wrong. Lets just say I was getting irritated. So far she had managed to hurt and scare my dog, make him out to be a terrible, one of a kind killer, made me feel like a terrible yorkie mom and proved she was completely "garlic incompetent." Finally it was over and we were free to go.. Thank God.. And I paid and told myself I would NEVER go back again! Sooo sorry it's so long.. But I just had to vent.. Am I being to judgmental or is this vet completely mental!?

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Holy Cr** I would have TOLD HER OFF - first you don't FLIP a scared dog on his back without talking to him or letting him take a wiff of your scent - She sounds like a TERRIBLE vet and you were way too nice - she scared him period - poor guy - If I were you and she is in a clinic type practice I would for sure make some calls - I wonder if you can report vets like you can attorneys or Doctors ? She sounds awful and my heart was cringing just reading your email - poor baby - I would def find another vet and I hope you didn't pay - if you did - cancel it !! I hope SHE has FLEAS !!! |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | That's horrible. I have had dogs for 35 plus years and different vets and have never had one be so rude and horrible with your baby and you! I would file a complaint with the owner if she isn't the owner. To even hint at putting your baby down is an outrage, she should know how to handle a more aggressive dog and understand that he has already been traumatized! SOrry this is so long it just gets me so mad when people treat dogs and other humans so badly! |

| I would call and tell her off too. My vet would never do something so horrible as that. She obviously knows nothing of the yorkie breed. Chachi will nip when startled like that too.

| I can't believe how rude and unprofessional that vet was. I would have told her that she seemed a little aggresive to me so maybe we should think about putting her to sleep. Sorry I am just ticked off that a vet who is suppose to love animals would behave in such a manner. You really should report her to the owners and if she is the owner I would send her a nasty lil letter stating how awful she was. Sorry so long but I am just so angry.

| OMG! What a b***h! I have never heard of a vet that was so rude, and I can not believe she suggested that you put him down. Personally, I would have ended the appointment as soon as she started getting snippy with me and mean to my dog, but I applaud you for having such self-control. Ugh...all of these horror stories are making me super nervous....

| Lee Ann, really put a hold on that check. Did you ever think of writing for a living!! God, girl I love your posts. Not a good day huh. Hate to say I told you so , so I won't. What an absolutely unprofessional jerk!! She could have caused serious injury to Harley's back...... she was very surprised she ran into someone who really had the gutts to tell her where she was wrong. Put him down, nothing, I think she is the one who should be put down!! You were too busy I'm sure to see if she had anything saying where you graduated....first grade that is!!!

| And then you're supossed to pay her!?! Did you pay with a credit card that will back you up or a check that you could cancel? It would be worth the cost of a visit to stop payment!! I think I would have grabbed her by her beard (in my mind the evil wench has one!), flipped her over, held her down and yelled in her face!!! How dare she!!!

| I would NOT have paid the vet and told her just how awful she was....I guess its just like those doctors with terrible bedside manners...Im sorry that happened to you and Im sure you will find a better vet....there really are good ones out there. Not that he is going to trust one right away now though because of that experience! In fact I would report that whole story you just told and get the jerk in trouble! he or she should NOT be able to work with animals EVER. Make sure that you tell your new vet the story so that he or she will be understanding of your baby. good luck! |

| Thank everyone so very much for responding.. I really didn't know what to think.. I was so angry and scared for Harley that I just wanted to get the heck out of there! The bill was $31 and I would rather she keep it than me have to go back to that horrible place! But I can guarantee you I am going to spread the horrible word about that place and tell my regular vet ALL about it and tell them to spread the word too! I mean.. GEESH! I just wanted to scream!!! She is obviously NO vet and not even a good person! I hope Harley will be able to act normally back at my normal vet office.. But even if he wasn't, and if he nipped or acted out, the vets and vet techs there know how to handle the situation! With preview sniffs, baby talk, petting, puppy kisses and patience.. NOT doggie body slamming and nasty screaming!
