He is 4 1/2 months and weighs 5lbs 4oz he has floppy ears and wavy hair I thought he was full bred but when I took him for his shots the girl registering him said he was a mix If he is any idea with what? I saw both his mom and dad they look like yorkies...the mom is registered the dad was a rescue. Thank you all!!! |

| WELCOME TO YT!!! I agree with Patti, your baby could be an off standard yorkie. He's cute! I have a floppy eared, wavy coated yorkie. They're just lovable!

| I think he is super cute. My Teddie has floppy ears, but I chose to let them flop by not cutting his ear hair or taping them. I dig the floppy look...

| DvlshAngel985, what do you mean by an "off standard"? |

| Off standard means not following the AKC guidelines of the yorkshire terrier standard (how the breed should look like, and what breeders should strive to achieve with their stock. Breeders who ignore the standard should be questioned). For example in DvlshAngel's case, her baby has floppy ears and a wavy cotton coat. The standard states yorkies should have upright ears and a smooth silky straight coat. Just bc her pup doesn't possess those qualities does not mean he is not a yorkie. Ever met a person that said they were from such and such ancestry and you thought, really no way! Kind of like that, LOL. Just bc you don't look it, doesn't mean you're not.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Looks like a yorkie to me. Shaving his ears and trimming the edges will help them go up. The weight can hold them down.

| Aww, so cute Welcome to YorkieTalk. I'd agree, he's a Yorkie, just "off standard" as Capt Noonie explained.

| So many 'Yorkie experts' in the world today just because a Yorkie has floppy ears and is bigger than some doesn't make it a mix. As Bchgirl said...shaving and trimming the hair on the ears may allow them to stand. Your baby is adorable...love him for just what he is and expect nothing more |

| Thank you for your Replies!!!! He is my first puppy of any kind and am very happy I got him. I am a novice at breeds....regardless I love my puppy....but inquire so when I am asked if he is a yorkie I can respond with confidence and not feel like I felt the day the girl told me he was mixed. I love this site so informative! |

| My Laci is all yorkie, maybe not totally proper, she has a cottony coat , which appears to be the coat of your dog, her ears are floppy but I really didnt shave them like I should have done all the time. Her ear hair is very very heavy and thick. I love her just the way she is, and his current weight is with in standard. Its up to 7 pounds. He may not grow much more. Maybe a shave and a hair cut would do him some good. With a cottony coat I prefer a shaved body and fuller legs and face. Its known on this board as the " joey" , its an adorable hair cut and for dogs with thicker/fuller coats is simply adorable.

YT Addict | I'd say your baby is a yorkie too... maybe the girl registering him didn't realize how many different type and looks yorkies can have beside the "standard"... you'll get too looking around on here and you'll see parti, chocolate, black/tan, balck/blonde, blue/tan, all blonde or gold etc... Yorkies come in MANY sizes, shapes, colors that's for sure!
