I take mine to the Vet every 6 months, just for a wellness check and I also have blood work at that time as well. When ever the blood work is done they also do the Heartworm test as well.

I also have mine on Sentinel all year round.

It's at vet discretion. If you don't keep them on it year-round and test yearly, then the company probably won't pay if there is a product failure.

Here owner can sign and waiver and test every other year instead of every year. Vet's choice to offer this... Not recommended to skip yearly testing though, especially now.

That's the way it has always been however, vet's still insist on annual testing...they will not trust that a dog has been given heartworm religeously.

At our last visit my vet told me Moka didn't need a HW test since she got one last year. So he put us on an every other year schedule which means every year one of my dogs will be tested, not both. This was the first I had heard of this schedule as I have always known it to be every year, but my dogs are on preventative year round here.

My dogs vet makes it mandatory to have a heartworm test done every year when they get their shots, if you buy the heartworm with them the test is only $5.00 per dog. Good deal the way I look at it. His thought is he cannot consciously throw heartworm meds at people without knowing if the dog has heartworms, the meds can kill the dog if they have it. Better safe than sorry.

That is what my brothers dogs vet told him. Mine told me differently. My vet said he cannot judge for sure when it might have been given late, if it was forgotten, so he does it every year. He doesn't go by the owners word because he said, "Frankly, they could lie." I dig a vet being honest with me and caring more about the health of my pet than whether or not I got offended at the honesty. LOL

We test yearly and always in the month of April. All three just had their blood drawn.

We test yearly at the yearly exam. Regualar heartworm preventative is given monthly.
