Last year Sophie would bark at the little girl next door who would come to our fence and pet her. I invited her to come over to our house and play with Sophie in our back yard. That helped somewhat. Now Sophie doesn't bark as long or hard at her (mostly just to say hello) and looks forward to their play dates. Maybe you could introduce them and they could come over one at a time.

Gee do you suppose that they think the new people are intruders in their former friends house and yard?? A thought.

That's exactly what I think it is. Both are trying to protect the yard. Jersey knew the old neighbors from the day I brought him home. He had free reign of their yard and house. He would go right to their door, they would let him in and he just hung out there like it was his own home. We miss those neighbors so much
