Designer dogs- does this bother anyone else?

What is "fly catcher syndrome"? I've never heard of it. Does it have to do with the mouth? It reminds me of the saying "catching flies" (e.g. slack jawed/open mouthed).

Flycatcher syndrome is a disorder in which a dog seems to be snapping at "imaginary" flies. Copper will walk around and suddenly jerk his head to the side and snap at the air over and over. He does this multiple times on a daily basis.

I think you're right. Every goldendoodle I met was totally crazy though lol but so were many of the standard poodles I've met

Puggles are REALLY popular here (I think mainly because Beagles are also because hunting is big here) and the people who have them seem very happy with them (I know 3 personally). The only thing is, for whatever reason they tend to have underbites. A friend of mine has a Yorkipoo and he's a great dog and really healthy, I think she paid about $300 for him a few years ago. Idk, I think it's pretty much like the same problem we see constantly with brokers and mills of purebreds, it's the crappy breeders that are giving this cross-breeding a bad name, not the concept itself. The only problem I have is that there are soooo many dogs in shelters needing a home that are basically the same thing and not getting homes because of BYBs doing this. Idk JMHO

I agree that the outrage should be directed toward the breeding practice. I've only ever owned mutts. I got my chorkie from a puppymill that was getting closed down, I didn't even know what he was until she gave me his 'papers' declaring him a designer mutt. lol Mixed breeds are great, part of the fun is knowing that he/she is unique.

I got Zoe from a pet shop I didn't really know about designer breeds at the time anyway Zoe is a Shorkie and I'm ashamed to admit that I did pay $1000 for her. Now that we have Zoe for over a year I think she's the greatest dog is the world but I don't think I would make that mistake again.

My best friend has a "designer dog" a chiweenie (dachshund/chihuahua)
we payed a outstanding $50 for her and could not have asked for a better dog however she has a long back and disk problems like a dachshund and nerve problems like a chihuahua
she is beautiful and smart and always makes the bed a little warmer.

she came from the pound listed as a "chihuahua mix"

Most of my best friends growing up were rescued from a pound and they were some sort of "mix".

It bothers me that there are so many mutts and mixed breeds out there in search of a good home and people are breeding them on purpose and selling them to people at the cost and under the guise of a designer dog.
Go to the pound if you want a mixed breed dog, not all pound or rescue are damaged or afflicted, many are just rejected.
They'll be breeding them with parrots next and selling them as angel dogs with wings

You know what I say to this, then you are not meant to have a dog. I developed allergies to cats and dogs since my first dog died. I did my research and discovered Yorkies and I don't react, which assisted me in the decision. I didn't have someone experiment until I could have a cocker spaniel or a german shepherd I didn't react to.
why don't we just let humans breed and cross breed until they get what they want, oh yeah hitler did that and look what happened.

I know that all pure breds nowadays are the result of 100's of years of cross breeding, but stop already, leave them alone.

just watched the video, that tv shows producers are fecking idiots for doing that piece, not a mention of health issues, this one is prone to hip dysplacia and this one to collapsed trachea, so if you blend them you can have both problems.

I have read that before, but what I don't understand is why it was necessary to do a cross-breeding to get a "hypoallergenic" dog. Poodles are already hypoallergenic, so why couldn't the friend just get a Standard Poodle? If it was a question of the Poodle temperament, why not just selectively breed Poodles to get a temperament suitable for service dog work? (This is a rhetorical question, I don't expect you to know what they were thinking).

All I was saying is the guy regretted his decision to start mixing the two attempting to create a service dog for a person who could greatly benefit from having one...I understand what he was trying for, a dog with the labs temperament but with the poodles hypo-allergenic genes. I don't agree with it, I can't see why he couldn't just train a poodle to do what the average service dog does...but I do think there was something behind mixing the lab in there...
I agree with no more designer dog craze, I hope it blows over soon...
