She has no fear! Well, Leyla has no fear on the boat. She keeps trying to go up to the bow and walk the rails while we are away from the dock. Today is supposed to be choppy again and the boat will pitch quite a bit at anchor. Too hot to keep her in a life jacket so she stays leashed and can reach onto the deck or be smart and stay in the salon with shade. I was hoping she would be a good boat dog but this is ridiculous! She is so small we probably wouldn't even hear her go overboard and we hooked a pretty big bull shark Tuesday. Don't want to use her for bait!

Your situtation does sound potentially dangerous the way you described it. I'd at least recommend that you always keep her harnessed and leashed and double check that all is secure if you were to go out boating with her. Even with a life jacket, there would be a good chance that you are not paying attention to her 100% of the time. Also sounds like you should keep her locked up when pier side, to prevent her from accidentally falling... in which case even if she could swim, would she know how to get back on dock or in your boat???

Too hot to keep her in a life jacket so she stays leashed and can reach onto the deck or be smart and stay in the salon with shade. As stated, she is now leashed at all times and I take her crate for rough days. She has lost her "free roaming" priveleges since she wants to walk the gunnels and bow ride. We are in the Florida Keys and she would get heat exhaustion if in a life jacket all day. She is a goofy girl!

We live in a house and have a 48' boat for off shore fishing charters. Believe me, we are very glad to get off her at the end of a typical 12 to 14 hour day. Leyla has been fishing with me since she was 12 weeks old and has great sea legs. Keeps her balance all the time and doesn't seem to mind the rough waters. She is getting more and more interested in the bigger fish. We boated an 80 pound amber jack last week and she went nuts trying to see this thing. Had to let her investigate before she lost her mind!
