YorkieTalk Newbie! | Help!!! Hello, l'm new here, and I need help from people who know. My 3yr old Yorkie is/was pregnant with 2 puppies. Last Thursday she was taken to the vet for a check up and they xrayed her and we saw the two pups. Yesterday she was taken back to the vet because we thought she was going into labor, she was producing milk and her vulva was swollen and purple, he examined her and said she was in the first stage of labor and within 24hrs she would have her puppies. I sat with her all afternoon and most of the night by her and her nest. This morning came with no puppies, the breeder suggested we take her back, we did and they xrayed her again and did and ultrasound and said there where no puppies, but yet the birth canal was complety open as if she was ready to deliver. The vet advised us to go home and look for puppies, we did and nothing was found. There was NO SIGN of anything at all. But she is STILL producing milk and her vulva is still swollen and purple, and she continues to lay in her nest away from the other dogs. Some one please help!!! Has this happened to you ??? Have you heard about this? We don't want to give up on the pups! |

| I've never heard of anything like that happening, but I'm not a breeder. Hopefully someone with experience can give you an answer. I'm sorry you are going thru this.

| Really weird. Maybe re-post this in the "breeders" section if you don't get any suggestions here. Not to sound awfull of anything, but what other breeds of dog do you have? Could they have done something with puppies?

| False pregnancy? If that is the case, then she should dry up within a few weeks. You may see her mothering a stuffed toy though.

| I'm betting the vet saw something, but not puppies.

| Did the vet take Xrays? This is very odd

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I hate to even suggest this, but is it possible she could have ate the puppies? I remember hearing of cats doing this.

| Wow!!! Is it possible that she did have the puppies and they are somewhere in your house?!?! That sounds really weird to me. I mean.........wouldn't there be some kind of signs of the whelping - like blood or something?

| If there was an XRAY showing pups..and now she doesn't have any.. there are limited options.... Do you ever let your dog go outside unattended? A scary thought is she had her pups outside under a porch or something? Or... she ate them? |

| But the OP said that she had xrays last Thursday which showed 2 pups, so it can't be a false pregnancy. Right????

| I dont know maybe the vet thought he saw something but he really didnt. I find it unlikely she ate her pups I mean I know it can happen but it is rare.

| Omgosh! if you your vet saw pups with the xrays, they have to be somewhere! This sounds too strange....
