Take her to the Dermo. so she can be properly diagnosed and recieve the care and treatment she needs in order to become well. The smell is from the infection she has on her skin. It will not go away until she is treated for it the right way. She sounds like she is suffering right now, and perhaps hurting too. I hope you don't give up on her.

La Mesa, CA 12/10/2010 We've been seeing Dr. Boord here for about 3 years now. She is wonderful. Our frenchie has had the skin issues typical of his breed for most of his life. He would get bacterial skin infections several times a year, more and more frequently as he got older, & is also highly flea allergic as we found out after moving close to the beach where they thrive. The flea bites sent him into a severe downward spiral so that our regular vet finally said, you need to see a specialist and recommended Dr. Boord. I was a bit skeptical at first, having already spent so much money with little results at our regular vet. The per visit fees/medicines are slightly more expensive than our normal vet, but in the long run, going here has actually saved us money. On the first visit Dr. Boord was able to pinpoint why the previous treatment had not worked (wrong abx for the specific bacteria causing the infections) and improvement was pretty immediate. Over the next few months we figured out a medication regimen that has kept our dog's allergies and skin infections under good control for the past 2 years, which means we only need to go in twice a year for checkups and to reevaluate the plan, and the occasional visit to our regular vet. Dr. Boord is very knowledgeable and takes the conservative route with medicines which I like. But she is not averse to trying different things to make sure that your pet is getting the best & most effective treatment possible. I also like all of the nurses here. They're always friendly and acocommodating. In all I'm very very happy with the treatment Henri has received here. His quality of life has improved dramatically as he is now almost completely itch free, which means I worry about him less and enjoy having him around more. Was this review …? San Diego, CA 4/16/2008 This is where to take your dog if you want to be assured it will receive the best care possible. The doctors listen, they are thorough, and you will know that everything possible is being considered regarding your pet's health. We got bad news from them last week about our best friend, and the doctor was straightforward with it, and everyone was very nice and made us as comfortable as they could. Over the years, the care from Animal Dermatology Clinic improved our dog's quality of life immeasurably and I recommend this place if you want the best. Listed in: Born to Shop Was this review …? San Diego, CA 2/22/2008 Dr. Boord is wonderful! Our dachshund had some problems with her ears and after 8 weeks and $$ our normal vet couldn't diagnose the problem. A friend told us we should see a dermatologist...I said "WHAT??...didn't know there were dermatologists for dogs"!! Anyway off we went to Dr. Boord who quickly diagnosed the problem and gave us a plan of attack. I really like that she takes the conservative route!

Yorkie Yakker | ![]() I have had her on grainfree food, very expensive for two months now. Also the herbal drops and shampoo at a $ figure that I have never spent in my life for our hair. This has been two months, do you think that it should take a longer period of time and what experience have you had in this area. I have seen many smelly skin infection dogs and i know that you cannot expect them to be cured in such a small amount of time, especially since you don't even know what's wrong with her. Food allergy trials are done over MONTHS not days or weeks. You have to pick a good food and stick with it for at least 3 months to ensure the results you are getting are from the food you are currently feeding and not crap that is left in her system from previous foods. To ensure you get correct results with a food trial you need to be giving her that specific food ONLY. no treats, no people food, no other dog food, basically nothing goes in her mouth but that food unless its a medication that the vet told you to give. Medicated baths, antibiotics, ear meds, etc.... all take time to work. You are jumping all over the place with things to try to get rid of the smell but you are not seriously treating the problem. I'm not surprised nothing you have done has worked yet. You aren't giving it a chance. You have to do one thing at a time so you can determine what is causing the problem and what fixes it. Giving a bunch of treatments at the same time or one right after the other will not help. Take the poor dog to a dermatologist asap and follow their directions to a T.[/QUOTE] |

| ![]() When I rescued a yorkie he smelled very bad as well. It was horrible. I would give him a bath and within hours he would smell again. I found out he had rotting teeth and the infection was seeping out of his pours. I had his teeth cleaned and pulled and that helped alot .He also had a condition that he lost all of his hair on his mid section. He only had hair on his legs anf his face. I then put him on a raw diet and slowly I noticed his smell was gone. He also started to grow peach fuzz on his back and belly. It is just a thought. A dermo Dr would be a great place to start thou. Good luck. |

| ![]() First of all grain free food doesn't have to be expensive. Gizmo is on grain free food and for a 3.5 lb bag, which lasts him awhile, it's $10.95. Besides, skin allergies or not, I would highly recommend grain free in general. With that being said, there's not much else you can do tonight. But, that doesn't mean you can't be proactive. The members in this thread have provided alot of information, one even basically mapped out a Vet Dermatologist for you. So to say we're not helping you is a fallacy. However, we may not be providing you with a fix it now solution which may be what you want to hear right now due to your frustration. I read your blog and it says that you had her anal glands squeezed. Now, my Cairn, she will get this odor and I can't even describe it and it's terrible. It's almost has like a sweet smell to it. And I know it's her anal glands because she only gets it when she's nervous, anxious, or about to go outside and express them. When she gets out of the stressful situation, the odor goes away. With that being said, your pup is a rescue and could be doing the same thing. Especially since she's in new surroundings. Now, I'm not a vet, or a vet dermatologist, however I am providing you with some information that you could mention to the dermatologist if you plan on going (and I hope to Jesus that you do). Remember, that the little face and bat ears that is lovingly staring up at you isn't malicious or purposefully trying to be stinky. Imagine her thought process, she's stinky, her Momma is upset and she knows it, and there's nothing she can do about it. Dogs sense your frustration which probably doesn't help her state at all. Please listen to our advice, even if it's not the exact thing you want to hear, it's good solid advice and could provide you the answers you've been looking for on here. Keep us posted.

Yorkie Yakker | ![]() Thanks for your sweet reply. I am in no way angry, frustrated is the word. I have tried sooo many things and nothing seems to be working. I am not taking it out on my sweet little dog, but more in desperation I am trying to help her, so I am reaching out for help. If I wanted to be ridiculed or accused of abuse I could go to a different site I'm sure. So thanks and I will get her to the dermatologist and see if that works. |

if you want a care free cuddle buddy get a stuffed animal. dogs are living beings and cannot care for themselves, they rely on us just like human babies do for care and love and health and feeding. so if that's not what you signed up for then you got the wrong kind of pet. if you do love your dog then take her to the specialists and follow through with their advice and treatments until she is finally well and no longer stinky. either way i wish you the best and good luck | |
