| Shaving the ears I am starting to notice one of his ears starting to flop... They have always stood up. He may be teething, but when I got him the tips were shaved and his ears and they have been perky. I want to shave the hair back down, but he's not having it... Any tips on a successful ear shave.. I was using electric clippers.. maybe it's the sound, maybe I should try manuel.. but i'm worried about cutting his ears cause he wiggles. Maybe I just need to take him to the groomers and they can be the bad guy. |

| The noise of an electric shaver can be stressful to a puppy. In the beginning I found a safety razor to be less annoying to Sophie. I went slowly, holding her securely while giving her a treat. Sometimes my husband would help by talking to her and giving the treat. Sophie's groomer shaves them when she goes for her grooming about once a month. In between, when I bath her, I use a small electric, now that she's a little older and more trusting. Still they are perky at the base and a little tippy on the points but I love her cute little look!

| Work with your pup when he is drained of energy. Choose a designated grooming spot in your home, away from distractions. Go slowly and be patient, but confident and firm. If you are anxious and frustrated, your pup will sense it and won't sit still. Make it a happy experience, but let him know he isn't getting away until the job is done. Encourage him to sit still with praise. When the task is complete, celebrate and give him a yummy treat. Grasp the ear flap firmly, and use electric trimmers to shave. If you are unsure about using the trimmers correctly, have a groomer or experienced person show you. Work with your pup each day on accepting your touch to his ears, paws, and all over his body. Bring the electric trimmers out at least once a week, even if you don't actually shave anything. This way he will grow accustomed to the noise and it will become routine. Good luck.

YT 1000 Club Member | Maximo, on every point ! Also, you can leave the Trimmer out and plugged in (when you can monitor him). Turn the Trimmer on (no clipping) and give him a treat. Before long, guess who's going to show up, when he hears the Trimmer !

| Thanks for all the advise... I will work on him by introducing him to the clippers. He needs his first grooming appt soon. I will ask the groomer when I go to show me how to properly shave them.... that's a good idea. |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | You might want to look in to buying a battery powered bikini area trimmer from the drug store. I used one of these for trimming the hair between the paws when Rhett and Scarlett were little. They are quiet and there's no risk of nicking the ears with them. How is your little guy, BTW? Any new pics?
