That was a very well thought out response Her response probably wasn't what most on here had hoped for but at least you did your part in educating her. Unfortunately she just doesn't get all the negative things that could possibly become of breeding her tiny female...

It's hard to convince someone that the Yorkshire "Breed" is considered
a "Toy", regardless of an individuals weight. That, and the "Breed
Standard" weight of 5-7 lbs, is an AKC issue. Set and done !

Now, "WE" as owners have "expanded" that (if in nomenclature only) to
include "Cups" and "Pots"

So...
Just what weight should the "line" be drawn at, for one less than that,
to consider one a "Teacup". ?

And conversly...
What weight should be considered when exceeded, for one to be a
"Teapot" ?

I went back and read AKC page it doesn't list a low weight but I swear I read it before and it said 3-7 pounds. Or was it 3.5-7?
Did I hallucinate that? LOL No jokes (President).
Seriously I'm asking, was there a change in the last few years?

It says 4-7 lbs but that is their recommended weightor it used to I havent been on there laqtely. It is the YTCA that sets the weight standard and it is "must not exceed 7 lbs.

Obviously, she doesn't get it that it's not just about finding a stud smaller than her dog. I hope that she will maybe come to YT or at least start doing some research...

You can also let her know that you got your baby from a reputable breeder that protects her babies and sold him on limited registration (no breeding rights)
EEEEK I can't even imagine breeding a 3 lb baby no matter HOW old she is. What a great reply you gave her!!!!

I don't know but I think Moshe is well on his way. He is 14 weeks and 5 pounds already!

I agree with the first one who posted on your thread who said she'd given up trying to educate people about teacups.

I get that question a lot when I am out with Copper...."Is your yorkie a teacup?" I just respond, no - he is just small.

On a good day Copper hits 4lbs...most of the time he is 3.8.

He is healthy, sweet, loveable and his size is not an issue except for making sure he is safe.

I don't even try to explain the teacup thing anymore...
Would you like a cookie or a scone with your tea?
