YT 1000 Club Member | ![]() Great Thread... It's hard to convince someone that the Yorkshire "Breed" is considered a "Toy", regardless of an individuals weight. That, and the "Breed Standard" weight of 5-7 lbs, is an AKC issue. Set and done ! Now, "WE" as owners have "expanded" that (if in nomenclature only) to include "Cups" and "Pots" ![]() So... Just what weight should the "line" be drawn at, for one less than that, to consider one a "Teacup". ? And conversly... What weight should be considered when exceeded, for one to be a "Teapot" ?

| ![]() Am I confused? I went back and read AKC page it doesn't list a low weight but I swear I read it before and it said 3-7 pounds. Or was it 3.5-7? Did I hallucinate that? LOL No jokes (President). Seriously I'm asking, was there a change in the last few years?

| ![]() I found it-I think! We were both wrong! It's right under the third posted heading: Right breed for you here's part of the exert: "If you are considering purchasing a Yorkshire Terrier puppy, learn more here. Toy Group; AKC recognized in 1885. Ranging in size from four to seven pounds. Companion, ratter. © The American Kennel Club, Inc."

| ![]() I agree with the first one who posted on your thread who said she'd given up trying to educate people about teacups. I get that question a lot when I am out with Copper...."Is your yorkie a teacup?" I just respond, no - he is just small. On a good day Copper hits 4lbs...most of the time he is 3.8. He is healthy, sweet, loveable and his size is not an issue except for making sure he is safe. I don't even try to explain the teacup thing anymore... Would you like a cookie or a scone with your tea? ![]()
