| Welcome to YT Bronx. Are u from the Bronx? I live in Manhattan. Your baby still very young and at this stage they are very bitey. My Gucci girl was the same, she is now 7 months old and she has stop biting our ankles etc. You need to be very consitent and keep telling him NO, giving him something else to chew on and ignore him. In due time he will get the hint that biting is a no no. Just be patient and consistent. Hope thathelp you some. Do u have any pics of your little one? We all love pics here. Wonce again welcome and congrats for your new baby. :Puppy: |

| Welcome to YT! Yes - we would LOVE to see pictures!!! As far as the biting, unfortuanately it IS a puppy trait. I have a little one and she bites at times and what we do is "YELP" when she bites then walk away and ignore her. She is really starting to get the picture that this is not acceptable behavior Glad to have you here!!

| It is instinct for any dog to bite....you need to teach to be gentle! Mitzy was, and still does nip at you when playing, and she always used to go for our feet. I ended up buying us all slippers to protect our feet. She does it now, but she is gentle, and i know she means no harm. The way to teach them to be gentle is hand feeding them, and everytime they are gentle when taking from your hand, say 'gentle' then if they start rough playing, tell them gentle. Molly, on the other hand, i think because she has always been with another dog, is so gentle, but she is such a growler...not sure what scares me most! I am by no means an expert, but this helped me! |

| My puppy is almost the same age. When she bites at me I say "No bite." and use an authoritative voice. Also, sometimes I whine like she hurt me real bad (sometimes I'm not pretending!!) And, if those don't work, I (very gently) give her a tap on the nose with my finger. Just enough to get her attention. It seems to be working and she is really understanding I think. She play bites softly, and that is o.k., and only when she is really hyped up does she bite harder, but then I just say no bite and she gets the point most times. Hope this helps!! I am a firm believer that you have to be a teacher to your puppy early on....they need to learn what behavior is acceptable and what is not. Same thing goes for barking (yapping!!) I just say "no bark" and "ssshhhhh!!!!" No tapping on this, just voice command. She's catching on to that as well. These dogs are very smart, they just need a little instruction so they know what do do!
