| How do you know that the meds are evenly distributed in the chews? I asked my vet about this and he didn't recommend it..... I would like to know more about this and where you got your information. Thanks!

Ugh I think you are confused...or I am...chews? Frontline Plus is a liquid you put between the shoulders...you buy the extra large dog size put it in a vile and use a syringe to measure the appropriate amount per the exact weight of your dog...it's actually safer than buying the prepackaged dosage that has a general estimate weight range on it...my vet recommended it and gave me the vile and the syringe and notated how it is more exact and thus safe. Ask your vet about it with this information maybe? Yes you can buy it on eBay like that too...but double check it the measurements with your vet (dosage per dog's weight) only works with Frontline Plus again, not all meds are the same.

.I'm in Phoenix, which gets a little hotter than Tucson - and you know that's HOT. We don't let the kiddo's paws touch the concrete or pavement during the summer/hot hours - they can burn their paws. We do very minimal dog-walks during summer....if anything, just late evening. If I have to go to the vet in summer, I'll usually start the car and blast the AC for a while so it cools down before bringing the doggie in the car. You know how long it takes to cool down a car here .Like Nancy said, the first summer is the worst! And then after that, you're freezing when it gets below 70. So true.

| Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I wanted to mention too...you probably already know this, but since you're a dog person - here in AZ, you can call 911 if dogs are left in the car when it's too hot. The police will come, and either break the window, or park behind the owner's car and wait for them to come out (if they think the dog is not under too much duress). Anyway, dog people usually are hyper-alert to dogs in the car...so thought I'd mention this for when you're out and about. AlisonJ taught me about this, I didn't know it -- and now have used it twice here in Phoenix.

| Welcome to AZ. I have lived here now going on 10 years. I love it and won't live anywhere else. I live in Florence, (Anthem) halfway between Phoenix and Tucson. We do as others do, after dark walks (but check the pavement even several after the sun goes down, concrete holds the heat and burns can even happen after dark!!!) I find early morning walks better, just as the sun comes up. Concrete has had many hours to cool down. Yes, your first summer is not fun!!!!! (Well heck, no summer here is fun, but its the opposite of living up north. They go from their heated home, to a heated car, to a heated store. We go to a air conditioned house, to an AC car, to an AC store. PLUS we have the benefits of pool and water park fun, which are AWESOME in the summer!!!!! Take advantage of it if you have one!!!!! I set up a very small shallow pool for Bella last summer, she loved sticking her feet in it. LOL (But also check the temp of the water, it can also get too hot in a very tiny pool) ![]() Good luck!!!

| Just 1 other tip I never go anywhere without an icepack and water in the little cooler I keep in the car. Even when its just a few miles. When traveling to show I also have the cool pads, just in case! Last edited by admin; 07-16-2011 at 08:14 AM. |

| YT Addict | Welcome to Tucson! I also live here, campbell & river area. We go to the dog park down on river and dodge, i think its the brandi fenton one, not sure what its called lol. But lately we have just been taking Dolce in the evening when it cools down a little bit. I will usually carry her until we get to the grassy area if the concrete is too hot (which I will always test with my hand first). Sometimes we will even go after dark and I use glowsticks attached to the back of her harness so i can keep her close to me lol! The city really should put some lights in the small dog area of that park cuz it is pitch black! Anyway, always keep extra water with you and if its really hot out bring ice cubes. I will even bring and umbrella at times and keep her on the leash so i can keep her in the shade of the umbrella if we are just gonna go sit outside of Starbucks or something. But if its way too hot we just stay home with her in our a/c. I dont like being out in the heat either! So if its too hot for me, then I know its way to hot for Dolce. Oh, also i carry a little mini spray bottle, like a mini version of a hairspray bottle, and put cold water in it to spray on her face and body at intervals. She LOVES it. so if ur dog loves water this may also be a good idea! PM me and maybe some of us tusconans can get together for doggie playdate indoors somewhere this summer! Good luck!

| I am in NE Tucson. I keep my Yorkies inside most of the time during the summer. I have an enclosed/screened in back patio, so if they want to go outside they have a covered area. Because my place backs up to a wash, I would never use a doggie door. Too many owls and hawks in the area. A small kiddie pool is a great little treat. I only out about two inches of water in the pool, but that is more than enough for lots of splashing and fun. I put some ice cubes in the water and they had a blast trying to get the ice. Ended up they would grab and ice cube and take it out of the pool and then get back in. Ended up with melted ice all over the back patio. Course, with the heat, it dries right up! I work long hours also and use Nunn-Better Pet sitters during the week. They come by daily (I work 10-12 hours days) for a mid-day visit with the pups. Because of the heat in the summer, they stay inside and play. When it gets cooler, I will have her take them for a mid-day walk. She puts down fresh water for them before she leaves, picks up my mail, and brings in my trash bins (on trash days). I really like Nunn-Better, but I also have a friend who use Happy Tails and speaks highly of them. Hope the rest of your summer goes well. |
